Attn Ed Martin or anyone: HAWAII spotters question

Ed or anyone,

I have heard the when your are on the HAWAII system that the racers
have indicated that there are spotter messages indicating what is
happening in the race.  I have been racing MULIT.exe on two computers
in my home and are using direct connect option.

Is spotters part of HAWAII system or part of MULTI.exe.  I dont seem
to see any spotters messages when I race at home against my friends. I
assume it is probably part of HAWAII system. If it is part of
MULTI.exe, how do you turn on spotters messages while racing.

Its neat to have the towing option now. I wish INDY2 had this also.

Thanks for any info,

This was probably answered, but since I can only get clumps of the
messages at a time, I'll answer it anyway.

What you are probably seeing are <AUTOCHAT> messages.  Like -Exiting
Pits- -Pitting-, ect.  MULTI.EXE has a standard set.  Push CTRL-(function
key) to use them.  In your NASCAR directory, the file AUTOCHAT.MSG
controls what is displayed when you hit a function key using MULTI.EXE.

Read some of the Hawaii text files for more info.

Spotters only work on Hawaii, not in modem or network racing.

> Is spotters part of HAWAII system or part of MULTI.exe...

If I remember correctly, MULTI.EXE was not designed to be run in a
one-on-one environment... Spotters are "generated" by the server.
In a one-on-one connection, there is no "server" for MULTI.EXE to
talk to - so it's not going to get the spotter info.

It's also the reason why you drop into the same pit stall when you're
supposed to qualify.  There's no server to handle it.

It is my understanding that the spotters are part of the server on the
HAWAII system and not a function of the multi.exe.

Dave - spotter messages are generated at the Hawaii server, so you won't
get them racing head to head with MULTI.EXE.
