ICR2 Demo - Available and Awesome!!

It's Here!!!  Available on the Papyrus BBS at 617-926-7599.  Be prepared to get
a few busy signals though.  Took about 45-50 min. at 28.8 - worth the wait.
Almost 7 meg compressed - extracts to over 14 meg!!  Get ready for a memory
hog if you run it entirely from hard drive (if possible?).  Anyway, about the
game.....

Awesome - seems like the AI is extremely better, more fluid movements of
opponents.  More realistic spins when the car gets away from you. Demo is only
VGA, but definitely more detail there.  Two tracks, Michigan and Laguna Seca.
(BTW, I've never been this good at LS - is it mental or what?!?)  And like Rick
posted, head down the backstraight at Michigan BACKWARDS to see some incredible
carnage from a wreck!!  Must look killer in SVGA!  I know the product will be
shipping soon, but if you've got the time, grab it while you can! You'll love
it.

If the demo is any indication, my hats off to Rick and the entire staff for
what must be an incredible game.  Job well done!  Now back to racing...

ARGH PEOPLE STOP BRAGGING ABOUT IT AND GET IT TO A FTP SERVER AS QUICK AS
POSSIBLE!!!!!

(Look I'm begging here, people, will you be good and upload or whatever
it to a ftp site, some people _do_ live in Europe, too)

Tommi Pajari weeps pitifully, breaks your heart so you just can't resist and
you have to put it up on a anonymous ftp site

I won't phone from Italy to the USA to get the demo. When will it be
also available by ftp?
I checked on ftp.std.com:/vendors/papyrus and it isn't there. ftp.papy.com
hasn't an anonymous login. Not very friendly to oversea customers...

Incredible demo, absolutely

"Incredible demo"???? Seeing as how you cant change
any setups in the garage (at least not me), I found it
a waste of download time.

wrong, type indycar -h It ran SVGA for me.

I got it off of ftp.std.com/vendors/papyrus  last night.

On another note, I may be demented, but I want to drive Nascars at Laguna
Seca.  The directory structure is the same, and the files are the same
names, but when I made a Laguna dir in Nascar, it came up as an option in
the game, but wouldn't load.  Thought maybe some of you hackers out there
might like a chanllenge.

Also noticed that there are all of the standard settings (ace, easy,
fast, etc) in the directory, even though you cannot load it, so if you
want a better setup, simply copy the ace file over the default file.

Yes, not to mention that somehow they managed to actually SPEED up the
SVGA mode so that it is actually VERY playable on my DX2/66 VLB.
Hats off to the whole Papyrus crew for another great game, definite must-buy.

The demo people at Papyrus wanted a fully playable demo as small as
it could be for downloading.  The demo would be like 10-15 MB if you
had full garage and pitting options.  I'm suprised they put 2 tracks in
there, AND you can do a real race with 10 gallons of fuel.  Have you
played the NASCAR demo?  If so, need I say more?
This is the most freedom I've ever gotten in a demo.  It's great.
Great game too.  I'm going to go buy ICR2 whenever the stores get some!

Tim,

In case you haven't figured it out, you can run it in SVGA, simply use
the -h command as in NASCAR.   Looks great, but  they could have given
us a TAD more fuel. ;)

The demo runs in SVGA - be sure you type "indycar -h" at the
prompt (h is for "hi-resolution").

Agreed, the demo looks and sounds great.

: "Incredible demo"???? Seeing as how you cant change
: any setups in the garage (at least not me), I found it
: a waste of download time.

You can edit all setup values by changing the values in the
default.st1 with a hexeditor (e.g. debug.exe, if you have MSDOS 5.0 or lower)
or use the easy, fast and ace setup by copying it over the default.st1.

The fuel value is limited to 12 gallons, though, but can be set to a
smaller value. It's being reset to 12 if you set it higher in the default.st1.

Enjoy, Ralf
