Awesome NICE 2 24 meg Demo

Sorry, I know it's a lowly arcade racer, but I think NICE 2 so far
is a real blast.  This has got to be one of the most generous demos ever
made; four tracks this time and four cars.  It looks like they've done
some work on getting the trees to look a little better; they look a
little less pixellated in this demo - or is this just my imagination?
The graphics look pretty great with a Voodoo 2, and the framerate is
fantastic with my 200 MMX overclocked to 250 with 64 MB.  I think the
opponent's cars look better in this game than any other arcade racer.
It's a real thrill to me to come up behind or get passed by some of the
cars in this demo.  The dust trails that get kicked up really are a nice
touch and not overdone.
Like I said, it's just a simple arcade racer, but for me at least,
its FUN to drive.
My only complaint is that the opponent's AI seems extraordinarily
aggressive.  The term Enemy AI keeps coming to mind.   If you drive one
of the slower cars, you'll almost always get rear-ended mercilessly at
the start of each race.  My wife was getting pissed at me yelling "You
bastard!" at the monitor.
I played NFS2SE afterwards and it pretty much pales in comparison
with this demo, IMO.   I haven't played NFS3 for Playstation, but the PC
version of that title better be damn good to compare with this one.

Maybe if NICE was in 640x480 I'd agree... but even then I think not. Car
models, background, all the extra things, quite a bit better in NFS2SE IMO,
but NICE still looks nice.

Buy Unreal. Now, damn you!

What resolution and card are you running it with?  I'm not quite sure what
you mean here.....I'm running it at 800x600 with a V2 and it looks pretty sharp
to me.  Some of the textures seem pretty nice.
It's not perfect, but I think this newest demo has fixed a few things.
This will be a must-have arcade racer for me.  I just got my URP bundle CD from
Creative and I haven't even popped it in yet......it doesn't seem as
interesting to me as this demo hehe.
This is going to be a great summer and fall: Moto Racer 2, Motocross
Madness, GPL, Trans Am, NFS3, Motorhead................

It looks very nice, I downloaded the australian track demo. But I got the
feeling that the cars are too big for the surroundings and the
crashes are not as good as NFS.

How do you change the res? I see no options for it.

The 24 meg install puts a folder on the start menu with different shortcuts in
it for the various 3D cards; these are just shortcuts to the executable of the
demo but each includes a command for that particular 3D card.  I deleted the
others, but the here's the command line in the shortcut for  Voodoo 2:
D:\Demos\NICE2\nice2.exe -X2 -R800x600x16.  Let me know how you think it looks
if you get it running in higher res......
