Linksys Router Multiplayer Issue---Please HELP

by Craig Missildi » Tue, 25 Mar 2003 03:47:44

We have a 4 port Linksys router and on cable modem.
We are trying to get into the same server and race against each other
online.
We can both connect to internet and surf with no problems
independently. However, when we go to N3 and try to go to multiplayer
it will only let one of us in. The  other one fails to connect.
I have tried DHCP settings, multiport put into the n3 ini file, etc...

NEED HELP

Please help if you know how!

Thanks

Craig

Not an expert, might want to wait for some other reply's, but I think
you need a switch (ie. Linksys ethernet switch) between the computers
and the router.
Good luck

IIRC you will need to set each game to run on a differnet port range in the
ini files.

You need a second public IP address from your ISP, each racer in a multiplayer online session needs
to have their own ip address.  You also need 2 copies of the game.  On a LAN race on your own LAN,
you don't have the same issue because each machine on the LAN does have a unique IP, but to the
outside world you most likely only have one IP address.

Nope - the router is also a 4-port switch (as opposed to being a
hub).

They need to specify different net_server_ports.  If your router is a
version 1 router, you may have to stop using DHCP and assign IP's on
the machines statically and then forward the net_server_port values
to their respective machine.
