NR2k2 OT. Linksys Cable Router HELP

by Morris Jone » Sat, 02 Mar 2002 11:24:59

just installed the 4 port linksys router to share my 1.5 cable connection
with my daughters computer. Everything works great , except now
my friend can no longer connect to the new IP address it assigned.
Is there a way to fix this or turn off the firewall it puts up.
Please HELP.

Thanks

You'll need to set up the router to forward the UDP ports needed by
NR2002 from the WAN IP of the router (the IP your friend uses to
connect) to the internal LAN IP of your machine.  See the "MULTIPLAYER
BEHIND A FIREWALL OR ROUTER" section of the game's readme.txt for
details.

Morris,

The Linksys router assigns what I call a generic IP for every computer
on your LAN. What your friend needs is the IP of your router which is the IP
assigned by your cable company.

As for turning off the firewall, you can't with the Linksys router
system. But you can do either of two things. You can open up the needed
ports or you can assign your computer to the DMZ in the advanced settings
that will bypass the firewall. That's what I do when I host with my
dedicated server.

In your linksys setup goto the advanced tab and forward the port numbers to
the IP the linksys assigned to your machine.  The port numbers are in a
readme file in the NR2002 folder

Read also where you may need a firmware update depending on your router's
firmware version in oerdert o properly forward the UDP ports.

I think this is addressed in various readme files as well.
