OT: Racing behind a Linksys router question

by John McClare » Fri, 05 Sep 2003 10:22:58

I just purchased a Linksys wireless G  router. I am having problems staying
connected to my regular Nascar 2003 server I have been racing on for a year
now. I am hardwired to the router. I called tech support and they said I
need to port forwarding. Does this sound correct and if it does, does anyone
have this information?

When I disconnect from the router and connect straight to my cable modem all
is well. Need help.

Thanks,
John

Yes, you need to forward the correct ports.  Try looking in the readme file
in your Nascar 2003 directory.  The information ought to be there.  If it
isn't, I'm sure the ports can be found somewhere on Sierra's site.

Although the above link doesn't have the port information for N2003, it does
give you some instructions on how to find game ports if the information is
not readily available.

I tried what was mentioned and both did not help. I enabled DMZ on my router
and this has not helped. Anyone else running a Linksys router with no
problems? Please chime in. Could it be my NIC? I have the latest drivers for
it. New to networking and getting fustrated.
Thanks
John

I used to have a wireless hookup. The latency on the connection was just to
high for ***. I since pulled Cat5 cable under the house, bought a $10.00
nic card and all is well now.

This was with a Cisco Aeronet hookup.

Check in Network Connections > Local Area Connection > Properties >
Advanced and make sure you have the XP firewall shut off. I am
assuming you have XP , doesn't specify in your post. Steve P
