and N4 races on my main racing PC whilst running Zone Alarm 2.6.231 by
setting the ZA internet security level to Medium and the GPL and N4 programs
set to allow server connections in ZA.
Today I bought a Netgear RP114 cable router/switch with the intention of
running a 2 PC LAN with one PC acting as a race server and a second PC (my
main race box) joining the server via the LAN. Initially I want to get a
single PC configuration set up using my race box (mainly because I need to
get my second PC back from my sister who I leant it to). Unfortunately I
have been having some problems.
I am able to see the net, send e-mail and most importantly join GPL races
via WinVROC through my new setup with my PC hooked into the router and the
router hooked up to the cable modem whilst running Zone Alarm. What I
can't do is host a GPL race.
The router is set up to get it's IP from my cable company's DHCP server
which it does successfully. The router also acts as a DHCP server for the
LAN and dynamically allocates IP addresses to the LAN in the order in which
the PC's are booted up. The LAN IP address of the router is 192.168.0.1 and
my race box so far has always been 192.168.0.2.
I looked at Alsion Hine's information on setting up a server behind a
router. From the information there I gathered that I needed to open a range
of ports on the router. I logged on to the router configuration menu, went
to the Advanced - Port Forwarding menu and set ports 32766 - 32786 and
6969 - 6971 to be forwarded to IP 192.168.0.2 (my PC). When people tried to
join the server they got a timed out message. I then tried the same setup
with ZA switched off completely but it didn't make any difference.
Obviously I am missing something so am looking for suggestions on what I
should do to get this setup working. Has anyone else been able to host from
behind a Netgear router? Any help is appreciated.
Cheers
