TM ACM Card for Joystick AND GP1 Wheel

by Callum Linds » Sat, 20 Dec 1997 04:00:00

Hello all,

Can anyone tell me if using a Thrustmaster ACM Card is the answer to
connecting a Joystick AND a GP1 Steering Wheel at the same time. Would
this enable them to be used for different games at different times
without having to unplug/replug the relevant controllers.

The idea is to get this for my step-father for Christmas but I don't
(from what I have read) think this will solve his problem. He likes to
play Nascar/RAC Rally using the GP1, but also Flight Sim95 using the
joystick and crawling around on the floor switching the controllers is
not that convenient. Of course he has to also re-calibrate each time
too. A real pain !

Any help or advice greatly received
Thanks

No, the purpose of the ACM card is to provide smooth and precise
controller input.  It sounds like you are looking for the Joyswitch or
another product that will allow one to plug in several devices and
"throw" a switch to select one.  There is another such product (can't
recall the name), but I've seen it at Software, Etc.

If you can't find one of these units in time for Christmas, get him the
ACM card and joystick extension cable.  That way one can "bring" the
joystick port to the front (or side or top) of the computer.  That will
provide him with excellent game control and ease of switching
controlling devices.

Not sure but this may do the job with the ACM card,
ftp://208.129.210.78/pub/library/raceptch.exe
RacePatch; a utility to make ThrustMaster driving
wheels work on port 2 of the ACM Card
Use joy on port 1 for FS95 and use RacePatch when using GP1
on port 2

Also I notice that propanel
ftp://208.129.210.78/pub/library/propanel.exe
has a number of buttons to select different joys and wheels, perhaps
you could use this with a switch.

good luck

Don't know about your problem, but here is what I do.

I have my Wingman Warrior hooked up to a serial port, and my Nas Pro
hooked to a 6' JS extension cable that I have connected to my SB16
gameport, and stapled to my desk.  If I need to switch the Nas Pro out
with my Gravis game pad, I just switch the controllers and delete the
Nas Pro and add the Gravis to the MS JS Applet.  I still don't
understand the purpose of having multiple drivers loaded though since
the games only appear to recognize the controller assigned to id #1.
Can anyone enlighten me on this?

So, add a JS extension cable and put it where you can reach it.  Or try
to find one of those " Joyswitch " boxes.  Even if you do, I think you
are still going to have to load the appropriate driver for the " active
" JS.

With all this JS adding and deleting, I don't have to recalibrate the
new device.  It is apparently saving the info somewhere.
