GP1 Steering Wheel : With or without ACM Card ?

GP1 Steering Wheel : With or without ACM Card ?

by Steve Gare » Thu, 20 Nov 1997 04:00:00

I bought an ACM gamecard - got it cheap at a computer fair.

Didn't think I needed one till I got it. First thing you notice is that
when you calibrate in N2 ICR2 & GP2 the pointers are really smooth.
After that I notice that my control is better & more consistent. I have a
T2 & a GP1.

My advice is get the ACM gamecard.

Cheers

Steve

GP1 Steering Wheel : With or without ACM Card ?

I just got the gp1 wheel too.
I called thrustmaster and while I was waiting, the recorded voice told
me that the newer gp1s came with the acm card built in. They give a
model number after which it is included. Mine was and I got mine around
10-31. So my guess is your's is too if it's new. You can call and find
out from the FAQs recording. I'll try and find my model # and post it.
If your number is bigger you have it.

: Hi,
: I got a GP1 steering wheel from Thrustmaster that I use on my Pentium 133
: system. This device is plug on the game port of my sound card.
: Does anybody could help me decide if i should buy a dedicated game card like
: the one that Thrustmaster build. Does such card will improve my lap times in
: GP2. Since I got my wheel, I have problem being constant in my laps.
: Is it the driver (me) or the way my wheel is setup on my computer.
: Thank you

Hey Transport,    I have a GP1 wheel (love it, nothing under my feet at the
desk) and have used it with the ACM gamecard and also plugged into the port on
my soundblaster AWE 32. Either way, same same. I don't seem to notice any
difference at all. They are only about forty bucks but of course do take up a
slot. For the price you may want to give one a try. I can add that it did may a
big improvement playing flight sims with my full ThrustMaster rig- stick,
throttle and pedals.
    All the best, Mike Davis

To the best of my knowledge, none of the Thrustmaster products have (or
could have) an ACM card built into them.  The concept just wouldn't
work.  I think you have confused the "Win95" adaptor with the ACM
(either that or Thrustmaster's recorded FAQ is confused).  GP1s
manufactured after December 14, 1996 are wired so that they do not need
the "Win95" adaptor.  Those manufactured before that date "may" need the
adaptor to work with most native Win95 programs.

Ooops sorry for the wrong advice.
I'm pretty sure that's what they said on the thrustmaster phone though.
Maybe I mis-heard it., but I don't have win95 so maybe they misspoke.
I've been wrong before and probably will be again.
That's what's so great about the news group.

GP1 Steering Wheel : With or without ACM Card ?

I tried a CH game card and came to the same conclusion.  In my system,
the performance increase ( I didn't see any ) does not justify the loss
of a ISA slot, or the extra out lay of $$.

may I throw in my .72 cents?

personally, I have found a big improvement after my ACM card.  I would
recomend an ACM to anyone
(not flaming, just stating by view)
