nascar racing 2 question

Hope that someone out there can help me with this. I am trying to install
nr2 on a Hewlett Packard pavilion computer and having trouble getting it to
work. My computer is a PIII 900Mhz. The game will not detect my sound card
(conexant riptide), and when I try to run the game the computer goes into
suspend mode. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to  no avail. Any
help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

It's been a long time since I have looked at N2, but if memory servers this
as a common problem, and users would get around it by skipping the sound
test and setting the sound manually in the game.
Again, it's been a long time and I don't remember where exactly we did this,
but try skipping the test, getting N2 to launch, and look for setting sound
manually.

Can't say for sure about N2 but I made the mistake of buying an HP Pavillion
with the Conexant Riptide combo modem/sound card. Never got N4 to work with
that piece of crap. Installed an SB live and everything is fine. Do a google
search on Coxenant Riptide and read all about the PO"d folks.

Not to be too much of a smart-ass, but you can probably pick up Nascar
3 pretty cheap these days.  I think it would be more Windows and
set-up friendly.   I refrain from recommending N4 because I've heard
it's a lot tougher.  N3 is pretty much N2 with a facelift.
