NASCAR RACING- Important questions before buying

by Gordon Vost » Thu, 04 Jul 1996 04:00:00

I've been thinking about buying nascar racing, but before I do I'd like
to ask some questions. If your going to reply, please e-mail me to,
because I barely ever visit here.

1. I've been able to play the demo on 486-66 with car detail and
grandstand texture on and still have a smooth frame rate, but my question
is can I still have this frame rate with eight detailed cars in front of
me?

2. What is the minumum installation of the cd-rom vesion?

3. If I use the minumum installation, does the game have to load in the
middle of the race, slowing down the action?

4. Does it come with a paintkit shop thing where I can take .pcx files
and put them in the game?

5. Could I do Something like this- Download the '96 Winston Cup cars and
a fiction dr.pepper .pcx paint scheme. Could I, using the paintkit or
whatever, race against the '96 cars with my Dr.Pepper car?
Thanks, B.J.

I never played the demo so I really don't know what it involved.  In the
demo were you alone on the track?  Also what track was it?  I know
Talladega gives me much higher framerates than does Bristol.

I think it is about 6 megs.  I just installed the whole thing to my hard
drive, that way I don't have to worry about keeping up with the CD.

All the track and car information is loaded once a track is chosen from
the menu.  There is little if any hard disk activity during a race.

Yes, but it is not as easy as it could be to do so.  Each of the 40 cars
(pacecar, player's car, and 38 opponents) is assigned a filename.  The
player's car is nasc94.pcx for example.  You must take your pcx file,
and rename it to match the slot in the carset you want to import it to.
Once the filename is right, it is an easy matter of importing it via the
paintkit.  You best bet for actually creating cars from scratch is in
another application (I personally use PaintShop Pro) as the paintkit is
kind of lacking.

Yes.  You can insert individual pcx files into any carset, or draw a
completely new car once in the paintkit.  The carsets are fully
editable.
