Logitech Formula Force Died

Sigh. After five months of faithful service, my Logitech Formula Force wheel
just died. About a week ago it would occasionally "stick" so the wheel
couldn't be turned beyond about 45 degrees to the right. At first I thought
it might be very clever damage modelling in Nascar 3 (damn short tracks -
the walls are often way too close on exit <grin>). But now it sticks solid
at various angles, frees up, sticks somewhere else, etc. And sometimes I can
hear something whirring away frantically inside - I think it's the
drum/cable trying to do its force feedback thing, but all I get is noise.

Looks like it's back to old Thrustmaster T2 until the other wheel is
repaired...

I think this is one of the first FF wheel fatalities I've seen posted here.
I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune, and I hope it gets repaired under
warranty (please let us know on that).

Unfortunately, I think that wearout-type failures are inevitable with FF
wheels, and for the price, that's a difficult reality for me to live with --
which another reason why I really prefer my TSW wheels over the Saitek FF
wheel I've got.  The FF wheel seems "frail" in comparison (which is not very
much like being in a real race car), and I just *know* it's going to break
sooner or later.

FF is neat enough, but I'm still not sure that it's anything more than a
gimmick (I'm still faster with a non-FF wheel all around).  Add in the
wearout and repair/replacement costs and the top-end TSW, ECCI, and SRC
wheels seem better all the time.

Just my $0.02.

And that's exactly why I bought the extended warranty/service plan offered
by Best Buy when I bought my LWFF--something I almost never do.

Logitech Formula Force Died

I was having problems with my LWFF after 6 month the forces seemed to
be weakening. After two phone calls to tech support they told me to
send it back for a new one.  BTW I never registered my wheel.  I still
wasn't convinced that some other software conflict was my problem so I
fooled around with it for another week or so.  I was surprised to find
UPS at my door with a replacement wheel before I even sent back the
defective one. Great support in my book.  BTW the wheel wasn't bad it
was something in the bios, software, USB, device manager or someother
conflict with a memory address. I tried so many different possible
solutions including 3 reinstalls of WIn98 but it is finally working
now.

Check out what Mauritz Lindqvist has put togather:

I made these mods to my LWFF and it works great.  No sticking at all.

  I was surprised to find

Heh, sounds like when my Voodoo2 was giving me trouble. I called the
manufature (who shall remain nameless) and told them about it, so they
said send it in and they'd send me a new one. I thought I would have to
wait a while to get it, so I fooled with mine for a while. After two
days, I solved the problem and the next day I recieved another Voodoo2
at my door. So, since they weren't calling me for it back...well, I
sorta kept it for an SLI setup...YES, I feel guilty...;)

Made that too.
but what Klinn experiences, seems to be some jumped-off cables in the wheel.
Probably can be fixed by someone, who spend already hours to assemble back the
wheel (like you, Mauritz and me)
If it is by worn out bearings, the conversion is the way to go.

Jens
