Broken my Ferrari FF Wheel! Opinions?

In my recent house move, I've broken the pedal connection on my Guillemot
Ferrari FF wheel rendering the whole thing useless.

I've been highly impressed by this wheel over the last 3 years and I would
go out and buy another except that I believe the current version is
different (inferior?) to mine.

When I looked at others 3 years ago, the Logitech foot pedals seemed to be
at the wrong angle for comfort, and the MS wheel paddles seemed to be too
close together. What is the general feeling from those who have tried
various others about the merits of the ff wheels out there?

Thanks

I thought the new Ferrari wheel was supposed to be better. I don't think
it's gear driven anymore.

Dave
Are we talking about the Thrustmaster Ferrari FF Wheel here?  I'm really
confused because mine was a Guillemot.  There seems to be 2 versions of the
Thrustmaster, FF Wheel and a GT FF wheel. What is the difference?  The GT is
cheaper.

I can tell you I have been studying, sending emails, reading reading
reading about wheels for about three months. Top rated in the class
from $150 and down is the Momo by Logitech and the Act labs. I ended
up buying the Momo, I believe overall more people gave it the nod than
the Act Labs. Act Labs has some pretty good upgrade pedals but they
wont let you buy them in place of the stock pedals so with them you
need to buy two sets of pedals to get the better ones.

There are other good wheels out there certainly my conclusion is not
from experience but from research. If you go to Google and do a search
of this newsgroups for Momo you will find a lot of thumbs up.

I bought the original version Ferrari FF wheel well over a year ago and it
is cable driven, NOT gear driven. Its a fantastic wheel. 3 months ago I
helped a friend buy one and the new one IS gear driven. Unless there is a
new (3rd)model which is cable driven again, then its a fair bet that you can
only get a gear driven Ferrari FF wheel now.

Mind you my friend's new wheel is still excellent and almost as good as
mine - just makes a hell of a racket when you turn it, and its more 'notchy'
to use. Strange thing is, when its switched off and you turn the wheel, the
red power light comes on until you stop rotating. Interesting electrical
circuit design eh?

BTW have you tried to fix the pedal connection? Maybe Guillemot can supply a
replacement jack which you could re-wire in place. Just a thought.

hmmm...  but does it have F1 style paddles on the wheel for gear shifting?
Also, it doesn't have POV hats for looking left and right intuitively and
for moving easily through in-race menus.  The Ferrari has all that.
Also the pedals look as if they don't have much travel. Has the angle got
better since I looked at Logitech a couple of years ago?

I knew I there was a good comparison of the two wheels posted here at r.a.s.
not too long ago, and I just found it using google.com.

Your're right. I had it backwards. Here's a comparison of the two wheels.

Yes.

No, but it has six buttons, you can set the upper left button to look
left and the upper right to look right, is that intuitive enough for ya?
;) What do you mean by 'in-race menus'? Do you mean the Nascar4/2002 F1
through 9 keys? I us voice recognition for that, MS SideWinder Voice
works really well. You can get a shareware version of it here:

 http://www.gamevoice.com/Download/gamevoiceshare.asp

No, there isn't much travel, but their ok IMO. The angle is still the
same but the pedals now pivot. You could always make wedge out of wood
to get the angle to your liking.

Now that is strange. I just checked out Slot's comparison and neither
version is what my friend bought. We are located in Australia BTW.

My friend's wheel is definately gear driven - it makes the loud noise and
lights up the LED when turning the wheel when off - but the pedals are
exactly the same as mine (ie original version), it is USB only, and to top
it all off he DOES have the throttle & brake paddles behind the wheel too!
It's a half breed!!

In my opinion the Force effects in his wheel are MUCH lower strength, and I
haven't noticed any more subtle effects, but perhaps some tweaking of the
settings is what's needed.

Actualy I like the angle of the Logtech pedals better than most. My reason
for this is I sit in a regular desk chair so with this elevated seating
position the more vertical motion of the Logitech pedals is much more
comfortable than the more traditional pivot setup. I use to get very swore
ankles with my old Thurstmater setup after long races. Now if they just had
a longer travel *sigh*

Sure dont know that one.....I think I qualified myself as being
unqualified in answering the question  :-)  probably should have kept
my yap shut......why on earth would anyone want to look left or
right?? If I wanna go left or right I just go.....watch out for me on
the circuit in a couple weeks......if you want I will post where I am
racing so you can avoid it.

Gerry if I post my email address would you trade a couple of emails
with me about "Voice" I picked one up at Radio Shack on a closeout for
$20 not sure about how it works and such. Check your local store
usually they close out at all of their stores.

Thanks Gerry.

Using a POV hat next to your thumb is a lot easier than fumbling for buttons
I think. The Ferrari has 2 making it easy to set up one for looking left and
right (and behind) during the race, and the other for moving through the
multiple***pit menus in F1 2001 while racing.

Sure, feel free.

I'll look forward to hearing from you.
