F1 2001 - 3D Setup?

by Sean Blac » Sun, 14 Oct 2001 07:05:29

What's supposed to happen when you run 3D Setup?

I've got a Voodoo 5 and I can't get the game to run at all. After
selecting the resolution, I press the anlyze button and the screen goes
black, the results come up as:

Triangle Rate: Cannot set mode
Object Detail Level: Full
Texture Detail Level: Full

Should the screen go black? Or should I be seeing something?

I'd really like to try this game after all the positive posts, but as it
is I'll have to stick to GP3-2000.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Sean,

I've got a Voodoo5 and it runs fine for me.

To answer your last question first:  Yes, the screen goes black (in a
window) as the game tests out your system.  My system is a Celeron 566 o/ced
at 850 and it set my Object Detail at full (or high -- can't recall) and my
textures to Minimum.

What resolution are you trying to run it at?  Make sure that whatever the
resolution, that you pick the 16 bit mode -- not 32 bit.  When I tried 32
bit, the game froze right up.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck.

Bert

F1 2001 - 3D Setup?

Thanks for the reply, I've tried it in 16 bit and 32 without any luck
I've tried all the different settings on the card as well, fastest,
single chip etc but no luck.

What does yours say about triangle rate?

Sean,

Let me clarify some of what I wrote before:

1.  the screen goes black -- full screen (not windowed).
2.  During this time, it says "Analyzing you computer" in the upper left-hand
corner.  Then it tests various texture settings.

To answer your question...My triangle rate ends up being "3.0 Mtri/sec", using
1024x768, 16 bit, 75mhz.

Other system specs: I'm using Win 98SE.  Ram = 384 Megs.  Video driver =
4.12.01.0666, dated 11-2-2000.  And I have my FSAA set at 2X.

Have you double-checked that you have DX 8 installed?

I hope this helps.  Sometimes it's just one little thing that needs
updating/changing.

I get this.

Don't get any of this.
Next to Triangle Rate mine just says cannot set mode. This seems to be
the problem then.

Done that, even re-installed it.

Thanks for your help. It seems it's falling down on the triangle thing,
I'll have to play around with some different drivers. Or maybe I can use
this as an excuse to upgrade my video card.

Sean,

Try the driver that I'm using.  Maybe it's as simple as that.  It's not the latest
3rd party one, but I think that it's the latest of the "official" 3Dfx drivers (or
perhaps one before the latest).  Anyways, it works fine with everything I've thrown
at it such as GPL, F1RC, GP3, Rally Masters, etc, so you don't need to worry about
it being incompatible with something else.

I personally would not change videocards, as I really like my Voodoo5.  Again, the
driver I'm using is 4.12.01.0666, dated 12-2-2000.

Good Luck at getting F1 2001 to work.  Although I just got it today and have only
run perhaps 25-30 laps with it, it's well worth the effort to get it running.
After tweaking some sensitivity settings, I really like the feel of it.

Install the drivers that work with me.

Go to http://www.reactorcritical.com/
Go to downloads
Install VSWin9xME-2102.exe

I hope this one helps.
