NASCAR 2003 causing reboot on two seperate systems!

by Icer » Thu, 26 Aug 2004 00:30:34

Very strange. Having a resurgance of interest in NASCAR 2003 among
friends we have all installled it recently On two machines in
particular, both with Leadtek GeForce 4200 cards by coincidence, when
in the interface going into the car it reboots the system. Not every
time, and sometimes when exiting also...  Doesn't happen in GPL, nor
at any other time. Newest mobo, video and sound drivers installed...
very strange. Both mobos are ASUS (as is mine), one a P4PE and one a
P4P800-VM.. Tried both D3D and OpenGL...

Anyone see this (or solve it?)

Thanks

Maybe off topic, but IMHO with the "4" series cards, I would recommend at
least trying the way older drivers.  Im using the Version: 41.09 drivers on
XP at home...  when I tried the newer drivers (least the version 52.xx and
up) each time I had drastic frame rate drops, and I have the Geforce ti4600
w128 meg, if that info manes anything to ya.

FWIW, with the most recent drivers, I got 25 FPS at the same settings that I
get well over 70 with the older drivers.  of course YMMV.

If you use the onboard sound (which seems to be the same as mine:
ADI1980) I would suggest you to lower the hardware acceleration for
sound by one notch. Hope it helps :-)

agree, probably a sound card issue. Disable your sound card and see if it
works.

Thanks for the responses..-

By coincidence in playng around with things last night I had one guy
go into DXDiag and drop sound accel a notch to "Standard". We raced
for 25 minutes with no problems (well, except he seemed to be a little
"loose" at Atlanta..lol).. thinlk thats it, gonna try it on machine #2
today.

If it works on both I will concider it a "Genuine Fix"!

Thanks again.
