Icer,
My experience is that you need the CDrom for NR2003 in each machine
during the onset of trying to connect to multiplayer, be it via Sierra, and
the CDKEY that installs with the version you install (on the CD jacket) cant
have been banned by sierra (again this issue is only if you wanna use the
Sierra Multiplayer lobbies to join servers.
If you do the IP (bypassing Sierra) then you do it the similiar fashion the
CD would need to be available long to not only launch the game, but also
long enough to setup the 1st machine as the HOST, by going to the
multiplayer on that main menu, then hitting the HOST tab. then you will see
if any IP addresses have been discovered for that machine... Sierra lobbies
matchmaking et all, will only allow one "instance of a valid (read NOT
BANNED) CD key onto its multiplayer lobbies at one time. So, and now you
know the IP of that HOST machine, you would then launch the other PC doing
the join (not the usuall upper right corner click on via sierra) but instead
you would fill out the "via tcp/ip" conection and add the addy in there,
then at the bottom right, you will see the green "start button" appear.
Pretty sure you can race 2 machines with same cd in this fasion.
Course now you got 2 cd's so you can do it just like I have done it many
times in NR03 that is, install the 2 different CDkeys on the (one each, on
different PC that is) then even use the multiplayer hosting functions (if
you have firewall this will be the next issue you must face for the hosting
machine to accept connections outside your local net). so If It Were me,
setup via TCP-IP bypass having to configure so that connections from outside
the firewall or router, just to race head to head, but if you have the
connection speed, you can both join a server no problems, or you can host
for others plus that 2nd pc.
GPL, on the otherhand doesnt care since it didnt directly support a "sierra"
multiplayer lobby, but again you need the IP addy of the server you setup.
This is the information that Vrock puts in there for you, when you joing via
Vroc or that new one gplaim.
clear as mud I suppose.
