I actually thought about this some time ago but this article reminded me of
it. Although not many would purchase it a Can Am sim would be super
(considering the state of the papy physics and tire model). Look at page 4
for a pic of one of the meanest looking racing machines ever.

Flame away if you want but these cars on some of the vintage tracks would be
a blast.

The company that did AMA Roadracers (Motosims?) was also going to get around
to a Can Am sim . From what I recall it was supposed to have a vintage
component to it. Too bad they've seemed to have dissappeared.

No flame here Dave.  I think many Yanks would love to see the Can Am
series recreated.  It would be especially cool if you could move through the
years, with the low winged cars, the High wings, and then the Superdeluxe
Turbos...   There are several tracks used back then that don't exist
anymore...it would be a great product ...but I don't think the market share
is there.
They haven't disappeared, just given up on cars for now.  Matt Jessick
occaisionally chips in here.  He used/maybe still is part of the team that
did AMA Superbikes.  They moved over to Bethesda and worked on several of
the drag racing titles.
To this day, no sim has produced better track re-creations than the AMA
SUperbike team.  Go run Mid Ohio that has been converted to GPL or N3 from
the old ICR2 sim.  Or run the SCGT conversion taken from CPR.  Find ANY
version of Mid Ohio/road AMerica/Laguna Seca and then load up AMA and see
what they really are like.

No flames here either, I think it would be a great idea.  The subject
comes up here occasionally and it is clear there are a lot of former
Can-Am fans out there.  They could call it "Sports Car Legends", or
"Can-Am Legends".

No flamin' here, either. Jim Hall has been my hero since long before I was
racing. A lot of innovation and some vicious tracks. Can-Am would get my wallet
out.

Ok..I was just concerned the idea was a little off the wall. However like Dave H said the market share would not be there. Would make a nice side project though :o)

I also think this is a good idea, since Nascar and CanAm should be equal in
the heard of ppl in USA? =)

This or a Group C-racer gets my vote. Then again.. 11days? left to
something..

How about a sim that allowed you to BUILD your own car from the ground,
up.  Specify material, suspension type (separate front/rear suspension),
engine placement (front/mid/rear), tire size/type, and then let you
design a 3d body to put on it.  It would also come with a number of pre-
designed cars modeled on real-world vehicles.

The sim could have pre-determined car classes based on height, width,
weight and engine restrictions, and you could design a car that would
fit into one of those classes.

Then, the sim could let multiple classes of race cars on the track all
at the same time, like Le Mans or the 24Hrs of Sebring or Daytona.

The beauty of it would be that you could take one of the cars provided
wuth the sim, and start experimenting with parts exchanges, tire sizes,
engine locations, *** types, etc.

Wow...

I would absolutely *love* a true Can-Am sim!
One of the best racing series there ever was IMO.

And if that would be possible I'll settle for Historic Gr. 2 touring cars or
V8 Supercars from Oz.

When I think of it - I'll pretty much settle for just about anything from
Papy as long as it's good, realistic and *not* stockcars!

A half-horsepower lawnmower sim it is then!
