Wouldn't it be nice to have an '80s Le Mans or endurance sim? Races would
be long, but probably fun. I saw some in car camera shots of a car
completing a lap in the 1984 Le Mans. At "Mulsanne" the car was hitting
353 kph (220 mph!!). The it hit the little kink and did 330 kph (206 mph).
A few seconds later it decelerated
down to 60 kph (40 mph) to go through the turn. Looking at a diagram of
the course, I saw numbers that looked like speeds at different parts of
the track.
At "Mulsanne" it said 364 Porsche. I don't know if that was the name of
the car, or if a Porsche did 364 kph (225 mph) there. And those were Le
Mans cars, and not IndyCars. Pretty fast...

I saw that game listed in Chips and Bits sales ad in PcGamer a few
months ago and in the last issue it was gone.

:       I saw that game listed in Chips and Bits sales ad in PcGamer a few
: months ago and in the last issue it was gone.

That's because they forgot to put a "save game" feature in the sim and
all copies had to be destroyed.  For lack of this foresight all of the
programmers working on the project where sacked.  They now have to
start from scratch.

If you have the 3D version of ICR2, then increase the amount of laps
for a race at Elkhart (make it loooong!!), begin the race with the cloud-
effect on (ALT+W...?)...After about 3-hours, hit ALT+W again (sunny-
day), and after 12-more change to night.

Pop a couple of No-Doz (or get your neighbor to co-drive the final leg),
and after 12 more hours, switch-back to cloudy-day.

Of course, the keys are no-doubt in a different order than I remember,
so instead of starting early-morning-like, you can start mid-day!!  ;)

I think the original Cyrix version had that already built-in (the
six million lap "feature").  :)

Before you send me UCE, I know what you're thinking...  Did he complain
to five or six postmasters last month?  Now, you must ask yourself one
question: "Do I feel lucky?"  Well, do you, punk?

Please make a Le Mans sim !! (PAPYRUS  ???)

This would be awsome! Picture this:

At the start of the 24 hour race, 50 sportscars passes the pits and head
for the Dunlop chicane.
As the exit the chicane the pass under the Dunlop bridge and from there
continue downhill towards the 'Esses'. Brake-attack before the 'Esses',
down shift from 4th. to 2nd. the slam the throttle as the exit and head for
'Terte Rouge' thru the narrow forrest. Aproaching 'Terte Rouge' in 3rd. -
you brake and downshif to 2nd. gear before you brake and turn in. Exiting
the turn you nail the throttle again as you head down the 'Mulsanne'. In a
Gr. C Porsche 956 you would reach 244 mph. (390 km/h) down the straigth,
only to be passed by a WM Peugot doing 255 mph. (408 km/h). That is in fact
the official speed record on the Mulsanne, set in '84 or '85 i think. Of
course now there's two chicanes on the Mulsanne so to day they only reach
200 mph or so. The WM team tested the car on the 'autobahn' first, where
the managed some 412 km/h !!! (closed road)

Man, would a Le Mans sim be great! Imagine World Sports Cars and  Le Mans
prototype batteling it out for 24 hours on 'La Sarthe'. I visited the race
last year and will be back again this year.

Getting to drive the circuit would be great and if there's ever been a race
or series whilch DESERVED a sim, Le Mans would be it !! After all they've
been at it since 1923....

Hey why not make one for Daytona (24h) as well ?

You guys keep a look out for a sim coming out called X-Car, its not
exactly IMSA, but its the prototypes
for the next decade of Lemans. I just got back from the Daytona 24 hour
Lemans and man was it great!!
We had a big cookout, drank lots of brew and had a bonfire. It was like
being at a huge party and there
happens to be a race goin on. Around 3:00AM I took a stroll around. Most
people were either crashed
or past out in their tent. It was a little chili and there werent many
people up. I went to every turn and walked around the whole track to
watch the line the cars were running closely. The Porshes seem to take a
different line than the Farraris. It was a spectacular site to see with
the head lights and the cars pullin
over 200 on the high bank. Team MOMO was ROCKIN!! Every time their car
past our campout in the 3rd turn
it passed at least 3 cars, Unfortunately it had electical problems
which, I believe, cost them the race.
Being at the infield with millions of people crashed out in their tents
and campers and you being about
the only one awake, kinda makes you feel like your in another world! It
was an incredible experience
and I'll go every year from now on! A 24 hour race at Daytona is
definetly worth a plane ticket to see.

Yes, I heard that. I think it was a WM Peugeot P88 in 1988, and it hit 405
KPH on Mulsanne. That's about 250 MPH!! I heard that they changed
Mulsanne, though. Would have been nice to see a McLaren F1 or Lister Storm
go down the old Mulsanne. That Lister Storm is supposed to have a 7 liter
Jaguar V12 engine. They had to put a restrictor plate (or something
similar) on it to keep it from going too fast for the GTS-1 division at
the Rolex 24. I wish I would have watched a Le Mans race in the '80s. I
havn't seen a single Le Mans race yet. Plan on watching this year's race,
though, if it's on TV.

I wonder if they'll have those new modified Porsches racing there. I think
they are called Ruf Porsche CTR-2, or somethign like that. Top speed is
217 MPH. You can hit about 45 to 50 MPH in first gear.

The WM Peugeot was entered solely for the purpose of breaking the 400 Km/h
barrier before the (ARGH!!) chicanes were built. It had been tested previously
at a closed section of the french autoroute, where it reached 412km/h. The car
was horribly unompetitive in this "max-speed" setup. Anyway, most Croup
C/Camel GTP cars reached 370 km/h on the old straight, and cars have done so
since the 70s. And they still (almost) do......The Mulsanne has claimed many
lives, and will probably end a few more careers in its current guise. But the
track isn`t only about the straight, I mean, it is awfully fast round the
whole lap, except for the Ford chicanes (appropriate, heh, heh..). But a sim
would be great - how about drafting down the mulsanne? If anybody makes a sim,
I`d prefer to be driving a R&S or Ferrari 333. If the sim was based on WSC
cars, it could be made a la NASCAR & ICR - the prototypes do not look too
different. And Papyrus have already made Sears Point, Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen
and perhaps a few other WSC tracks. Oh dear, now I am off dreaming again.....

PLEASE!........

Matthew, Norway.
