New sim idea.....

Ok, watching the rolex 24 gave me some ideas.  What about a can am, gt2,
gt3, gtt sim?  It would obviously need a way to shorten the races thought.
Perhaps a way to have a ai driver take over and then use time compression?
Or simply allow for shorter races.  Things would have to be compressed into
a smaller race though.  Like if you picked a 2 hour 24 hours at daytona
night would still occur, just an hour or so into the race.  This sim would
*require* night driving and weather as well as lots and lotsa breakdowns.
Perhaps even options when a breakdown occurs.  Say you get an oil leak...
Do you stop every 5 laps and re-fill it, or stop for a while and fix it?
The only main problem i see is the amount of cars that would need to be
modeled, so it really can't be up to gpl physics standards  :(
So wadda you all think out there?!?

I was watching it myself and was thinking the same thing. A sim that models
all types of cars on the track, slow and fast, and even models a complete 24
ours race, would be great. Yes, I think when you hand the car over to and AI
driver, it would have to compress time. But, think of this.... Multiplayer!
You dont hand it off to an AI driver, you literally hand it off to another
human driver. Kind of like the way GP2 does it (by savegame file) but from
the pits of course.
I would pay top dollar for a well built product of this sort.

>So wadda you all think out there?!?

I think it'd be awesome. Although short races should be an option, all
they need is a quicksave to make full length races accessible.
I'll race my 24 hours 45 minutes at a time.
Just make sure you're pointed down a straight before you hit quicksave
on that bad boy.

I love the idea of modeling different classes. One of the games that
did this cool was International Rally Championship.
I actually made runs in every class, from the Skoda on up.

Seems sorta similar, but i doubt SCGT will let you run 24 hours, save, hand
off to other drivers, etc.

Oops forgot to mention....looks too arcadish.  There doesn't appear to be
any visible damage to any of the cars in the screenshots and to get that 24
hours feel it needs various breakdowns.  Besides, whens the last time you
saw a simulation for the PSX???

I'd like to recall the last two posts after reading the review....gotta be
more careful next time.  =)

Perhaps you should re-read the review:

Not having seen the actual game, I can't say for sure!  But to quote the
preview "Car damage is very realistic: if you hit a wall too hard, you're
history."

...and who said there were no breakdowns?

Anyways, we can wait and see...

Cheers,

Steve

There's a PC version of SCGT by ISI, while the PSX version is by another company
under the EA umbrella.

Cheers!

SCGT allows for the 3 different (upper) classes to occupy the track at the
same time, just like the real thing (GT1, 2, 3).  In early builds, you
could set either the number of laps or hours you wanted (it'll go over
24hrs).  Cool stuff.

I have to say, if the screen shots are anything to go by it should be one
hell of a sim!  Have you seen the screen shot of the two cars dicing in the
rain?  Excellent!

Craig.
