GT Mod V2

Just downloaded the V2 mod - (having enjoyed the V1 mod for a number of
weeks) and shock horror.

I'm really disapointed.

I'm sure it's down to the default setups - but all the cars are just ***to
drive.

I played the V1 release for house on end.  2 laps of Hungary and half a lap
of Spa into V2 - and I'm figuring out how to go back to V1 again.

What HAVE you done to the setups. It's like driving on ice  with steel tyres

THe setups that come with the mod by Ian and Doug are pretty much one size
fits all tracks Ian said he was going to start making setups for each track
sometime soon.

You can make some simple changes like putting on soft tires for hotlapping
and wing adjustments. Stiffen the suspension. Steering lock.

BTW, try the Porsche GT-2 Turbo and maybe use the easy setup. Handles the
best IMO.

Whoops
That would be my fault then. All I can do is make them comfortable for me,
and with one setup to cover all tracks for each car (well 2) they're never
going to be perfect everywhere. Feel free to tune them to your liking Doug
:-)
What I will say though is that you are not going to transform the game from
what you feel at the moment into a grippy joy from working the setups.
Believe me I worked a Loong time on them.
The setups are a little low for the bumpy tracks and a little high for some
of the flat tracks. Try raising the rideheight 4 clicks back and front to
ensure the car doesn't ride the bumpstops when loaded. Check you're not
burning the tyres, run other compounds and see how that feels.
Even though the grip may feel low, the cornering speeds and lap-times are
just about spot on. The problem I think some people are having is that NO
compromises were made to compensate for the restricted proprioceptive
feedback that a sim inevitably has. The slip angles were set by the book as
was tyre grip.
BTW Doug, when you throw a few setups together, I'd appreciate it if you'd
send them to me so I can pop them on the site.
Plus you could try Doug Arnao's setups (with a DA after them) maybe they'd
be more to your liking.

I've also popped a new Viper setup here:

All the best

Ian

Are you for real?  Must be some kind of joke.

How on earth can someone complain about such an awesome piece of software
that quite obviously some people spent a ton of time developing, after only
running 2-1/2 laps....and getting for FREE?

Some people simply amaze me.

I just loaded the "DA" setups for each car I have tried so far...and they
feel great!?!?!

Here you go guys, try this and give me a bit of feedback (New Viper Setup).
I think it tames most of the excesses from the Viper.

by and large the DA setups are the way to go, atleast initially. For
the Viper they make a huge difference. For the heck of it I threw in
the Viper Pro setup, wooooooooooahhhhh with this setup its all about
throttle manipulation in the turns,, its a total blast but takes some
getting used to.

When I first loaded up this Mod I was a bit put off, the cars seemed a
bit impossible to drive (and this is from someone who has been driving
GPL for over  1.5 years) But once I got my wheel tweaked in via
deadzone and sensitivity,, then mucked with each car and setup for
another day, I finally clued in.

This sim really demands alot of you but pays off once you get the hang
of it.. these arean't 1967 era F1 cars and you shouldn't expect them
to drive as such. They are totally different beasts, IMHO heads above
SCGT, which was great for its time, but this is another level.

After about 36 hours of driving I can say this Mod is quite well
done,, bravo !!

PS: watch out for the Viper, some give it a bad name, sure it bites
with the least provocation but with the right caressing and soothing
it can be tamed (well atleast for a few laps, hahhaha)

cheers

LOL, had to use babylon translator on that one as well (I'm from the
Netherlands). I think he was trying to say that as far as realism is
concerned, no compensations were made for the fact that you're not actually
in a car, but most likely sitting in an office chair. Well, something like
that...

Hi Doug,

first, I'd like to explicitely thank the makers of this mod for giving this
awesome piece of work to the public for free. This add on is better than
many commercial games I've purchased.

As for the setups - 2 laps at Hungary and half a lap at Spa aren't enough
for anything. Drive ~50 laps on various tracks - by that time you'll
understand what the car really does. Before
you've done that and reached that level of understanding, it's like these
cars speak a foreign language you don't understand. You don't understand
what they're doing, and that causes your problems.

You need to learn what the sim car is doing and how it expresses its
actions, instead of expecting the car to do what you expect it to do, and to
express itself how you'd expect it to express itself.

That's none different btw when you take a new real sportscar (or motorcycle)
to its limits. You need to gradually approach the limit, and it'll take
quite a bit of time to actually know the limit, to understand what the car
is doing, and to learn to feel and listen to the car. And of course to know
what to do to make the car do what you want.

You can trust Doug Arnao to have gotten the maximum possible realism out of
this sim's physics engine. He knows what he's doing.

Read my post you idiot.

I was not complaining about the product - I was complaining about the
changes from V1 to V2 - which in essence - are tweeked physics.  For me -
the physics have gone downhill.

Is there really any need to call people names Douglas? I don't think so. I
really wish more people would be more considerate of others............

Well let me see if I understand this correctly.  I have spent a bit of time
tweaking my controller settings and the setups, and while I'm certainly not
going to set any hot lap records, I am having a great time driving this sim.

You come out a blast the developers for their setups when you've only driven
a few laps.

So who is the idiot?  <VBG>
