MS FF wheel - how to make it feel realistic?

by Phanto » Sun, 31 Mar 2002 13:35:08

Here's another question about the MS FF wheel in N2002:

It just doesn't feel realistic to me. The wheel feels very "easy" and
"loose" around the center, but when I turn it a little farther than, say,
1/8 of a turn, there is suddenly a great deal of resistance. The hard
resistance feels very abrupt.

I have tried reducing sensitivity in the Windows configuration program and
in N2002, but no matter what, the resistance comes about very abruptly

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

From the descript supplied this seems reasonable. The force feedback
depends greatly on the caster settings and the banking of the track.
Down the straight the steering is quite "loose" around center. When you
turn the wheel you are applying force to the front wheels and thus to
the suspension and you will fell this in the steering wheel.

Also if the front tires are sliding and not griping very well the
steering will be "looser" than if the front end is tracking well. If the
fronts transition from sliding to gripping then you will feel this in a
steering tension increase.

In the control panel I have full force settings setup and well as in
Nascar. My linearity is 100%, latency 26ms, damping 18ms.

Try turning the force down to med and return to center to none in the MS
controller properties. I noticed too much occilation if the force feedback
is turned up too high, especially on the raod courses. Then try adjusting
the amount of force in the game to about 50% and work up from there. Also I
use 100% Linear.
