Wow...what an awesome resource.  Hearty thanks to everyone who has poured
countless hours into making the complex and tedious job of creating tracks
easier.  As someone who can work all this magic (them, not me!!), it is
difficult to look beyond one's own sphere and see that in the long run this
kind of selfless investment pays off with more tracks for all of us to
enjoy.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marc.

Is releasing a track editor a good idea? Now people can change tracks to
their liking as well as change their engines. Sort of makes GPL Rank a moot
point if people change a track and then a engine, then set a fast time,
thereby lowing their rank. I think it may not have been a good idea.

Just my 2 cents, or pfenning

The tools cannot be used to edit existing tracks, unless you want to
hack the encryption :)

cheers,
Phil

If people want to cheat on GPL Rank, there are much easier ways to
go about it than modifying tracks and engines. I think that the
track editor is a great idea, I'm sure it will give us a few
more gems.

Hells bells . . . If you wanna cheat on GPLRank, you could just edit the damn
player.ini file!  People smart enough to use the track editor (I hear it's very
complex and I'm not touching it with a ten foot pole!) should be able to figure
that much out . . .

Actually Dan, I believe that would be a decimal 17456 long pole, as measured
from the centerline of the track of course.  ;-)

Many thx, great work!

FYI: The estimation of 2 days for getting something driveable
was perfect for me. Did the tutorial on Saturday, and a
simple track worked for 3 guys online on Sunday evening - and it
was great fun to race my own creation :)

(Please dont ask for the track until 2 years are over..
 - the estimation for doing something great ;)

The 2 things most missing in the tutorial (for me):
(no need to answer here in r.a.s., I'll find out or check the forum)

How do I get the starter and guys with the flags in place?

How do I create a brake marker (starting with a simple picture)
and place it on the track?

Ok, maybe both questions are covered somewhere
(sure, markers are trackside objects - or is there an easier way?),
but step by step would be nice -
a simple marker should be adequate for a tutorial,
and you really need 'em ;)

(but: once these questions are covered, the next most
needed things will pop up - never ending story.. ;)

And this encryption :(    oh well!

I really would like to see how some parts of the original tracks
are done to learn how to do similar things..
The Monza curbs (did they do it with traces and altitudes?
or with a simple wall with height? or with flags? or.. ?
The trees on the ring where you can crash into...
 - doh - so many things I could learn!

Maybe you can make small pieces of 3rd party tracks available
as full fledged examples to look at?

Hmm.. before reading this message, I planned to work
on a track tomorrow, but now I just want to edit my player.ini
to prove that there are simpler ways to cheat :(

(hmm... sending in that warped 0:02.59 second lap
for IMS would probably not go unnoticed ;)

Are there still ppl out who believe that GPLrank can make sense
without lots of honest participants??

That fits nicely to the GPL PerfEd (Performance Editor) I'm working on.
Should be ready very soon.
