GPL track creating - any easier proggie out there???

by J » Sat, 30 Jun 2001 23:48:01

Hi,
I just tried GPLtrk the first time, but it kills me :-(
Is there any tool out there, which makes the first step, i.e. track layout,  a
bit more comfortable?
I dream of a program, which uses e.g. the cursor-keys as follows:
up - down: extends - shortens the length of the active element
left - right: adjusts the element radius in small steps between sharp left turn
- straight - sharp right turn in small steps.
return: takes over the active element and extends the track by a new element,
which should be the same as the last confirmed element.

Unluckily I'm too stupid to program this myself.

BTW: It would be nice to being able to chose a picture as underlay, so you can
design a track e.g. on a satellite photo of the origin track.

I agree that a "Rollercoaster Tycoon" style idea of placing corners +
lengthening straights etc... would be ideal but I think it's just too much
to ask from amateur developers who have to devote much of their free time to
this.

Nobody, Mark Beckman excluded, learned layout construction on the first
try. Keep practicing and experimenting, and "it" should emerge within a week.

You're right.
So let's keep hoping.

BTW: Probably somebody has such a tool in exchange for a LWFF bearing kit? <g>

It's more about the convenience to add/modify single sections.
I made already my first track, it's a stunning triangle with a lot of haybales
around. Anybody wanna have ? ;-)

You know, I just had the zaniest idea for a track creating interface:
a program that generates random circuit layouts! You'd feed it a few
parameters about the desired length, curviness, speeds etc, and it
would generate a layout and produce a sheet that you could import into
GPLTrk. Aside from the importing bit, I don't think it wouldn't be hard
at all to code.
