N2: N.Wilkes AI ?

by Michael E. Carve » Mon, 13 Jan 1997 04:00:00

I just finished a 33% race against 100% opponents at North Wilkesboro.
I qualified 24th (like I said else where we will working on qualifying
setup next season <g>) and was able to finish 1st some 9 seconds ahead
of 2nd.

I know I am not that good.  What is the consesus on whether the AI are
too whimpy at N.Wilkes?  I know that I think they are too strong at
other short tracks and lowered them a notch in the track.txt file.  I'm
thinking of upping them at N.Wiles.

The AI cars are weaker at the short tracks because of the amount of passing
required. You can usually catch the leader hung up behind a backmarker. If
you look at the laps that the leaders turn when they aren't stuck in
traffic, they're usually pretty competitive.

Oh great thanks alot! I finally won last nite at martinsville
(%40  101% opp), I thought it was *MY* driving skill! now your telling
me the AI is just easier. My ego just crashed into the wall at 200
mph!

(what did I do with those "self-help" books???)  ;-)

Damn, and I was just beginning to think that I was that good ;-)  Some
of this certainly has to do with this, but I also think that the Rels
line for some of the tracks are a little out of whack.  However, you are
right, the AI guys seem like whimps when it comes to passing.  About the
only time I have them hounding me is when I have a crumpled sheet metal
or am on worn tires and they have fresh ones.  Then when I hold the line
I can watch them fight for the pass in the mirrors.  I really wished
they were more agressive in their attempt to pass.

Oh no, Andy! I meant to say that they're MUCH tougher at the short tracks.
In fact, Marty at 101% is like Atlanta at 120%. Does that make you feel
better? ;)
