This post is COMPLETELY off-topic, but I stumbled upon this site,
downloaded the demo and I was amazed:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
It's a 1st person shooter, but it gives a fantastic realistic feeling,
it's like being in a Tour of Duty episode.
And you can also drive around in jeeps and trucks so it's a little bit
on-topic :)
I haven't read anything about this game, so the more amazed I was when
I tried the demo.

Also keep an eye out for the game Black and White, which should be
released the coming days, it should be an amazing game:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
It's from the same guy who made Populous, Dungeon Keeper, Magic Carpet
and Syndicate.

Sorry for the off-topic, but I liked the demo of Op. Flashpoint so
much that I wanted to share it with you.

Yea, i've been playing it for a few days now. Have you downloaded the
extra missions that some people hacked together?

Some guy on the Strat group says it's already out in Canada at Future
Shop for $59.99 CAD with a $20.00 mail in rebate.

Wow -

it's like being "down in the dirt" as infantry in the Gunship! landscape
(but a bit better I think)

This one looks to be a winner.

You know, you *could* set up vehicle races and so forth...

I guess some shooting might be allowed in some...

I guess it depends what you want from a game.  It got bad press for not
having saves, but not having saves means you actually have to get good at
it, instead of being able to save after every enemy.  I guess some people
without the time or skill to get good at it could get frustrated, but I
managed to finish it.

I think it's fantastic, the best game i've played since Thief 2.  I guess I
would compare it to Delta Force, since it has the huge outdoor environments
with gigantic view distances, but unlike DF it also does indoor bits great
as well.  The weapons are very realistic and a very good selection, the
playability is on a par with half-life, the enemies and AI are excellent.

It's not for Quake 3 fans, afterall, at times getting hit once or twice can
kill you, then you have to start the whole mission again, but if you like
games like DF then it's a musn't miss title.  It's the thinking mans first
person shooter.

My only complaint is the lack of multi-player.  Also it switches to a 3rd
person view when you're climibing ladders, or hacking computers, which is a
little strange.

thanks for the info -

I'm not a big fan of Quake type stuff - although they are pretty fun sometimes
(Nerf ArenaBlast was even fun too) I think I mostly enjoyed them because of the
great environments.

DF Land Warrior looks absolutely great, but the AI is really, really stupid...

SWAT 3 - Pretty amazing but super hard in later missions....

Rogue Spear - AI is ridiculously bad... Why was that guy killed? Oh, I see, his
pants got caught on a doorframe....

Faves:
Metal Gear - the beginning was great, but the rest was sorta ho-hum until -

Syphon Filter - too f-ing hard in later missions, but fantastic..

PGA Championship Golf - too easy to pick off spectators.....; )

I'm gonna have to look up IGI now.

You might want to look into Thief II as well. It can be played end to end
without killing anybody if you're so inclined (and a good player). At times
it'll scare the ***out of you. If you're really keen you can play Thief I
(re-released as Thief Gold) first to get the back-story.

Thief II is my all-time favourite first-person game, closely followed by
Deus Ex (also a GREAT game). Just make sure you have the hardware to run
it - both games were a bit clunky on my PII 333/Voodoo3.

Yeah, I've heard great things about both...

PIII 500 luckily, though I'm sure it won't run FS2K2 acceptably..

You have excellent taste, Thief 2 is indeed fantastic, as was Thief.  System
Shock 2 should also appeal to Thief fans.
