I was having problems with my wheel while plugged into the usb port, so
looked at a switch to serial, but failed!!
All I can suggest is grabbing the lastest thrustmaster drivers. +use usb.

There are a range of serial to usb adapters available, (it's a wiring
thing, hence how my wheel has both.)
Have a visit to www.komplett.no and lookm up the
Sunsway Adapter from USB to Serial Port cable.

As it's based in Norway shouldn't cost you too much to get racing.
