Guillemot FF Race Leader "not connected"

by Dolle Do » Sun, 02 Jul 2000 04:00:00

I obtained a Guillemot Race Leader of ebay for a piittance.
Unfortunately it is not picked up, ie I get a "not connected" in the
game controllers.

I have gone through the procedures as outlined on the guillemot
support site.  Several uninstalls and reinstalls, got the latest
install and update drivers, both the ones listed under the Race Leader
and the Ferrari FF wheel.   I have pedals connected withthe little
modem cable, and the wheel is connected tothe power supply, the lights
light up and the force seems on.

There are no obvious conflicts under the device manager.

Is there a way to check if the serial ports are actually working?
They are OK in the device manager, "device working properly".

I have a PS2 mouse and a pci modem installed.  The modem is configured
on "com 4" but I don't know what that means.  It supposedly is
detected on startup and finds its own port ????

I have messed with the mobo settings, activated acpi, pnp is enabled.

VIking components pci modem, W98 retail with recent MS website update.

Not much added software, Symantec virus detection, freemem memory
manager. Logitech joystick monitor.

I wil try a BIOS flash tomorrow, see if that helps.

Any other ideas?

Cheers

Thx, but I have done this a hundred times already.  Is there a way to
check if a serial port is actually working, except for checking in the
device manager?  (where it says that "the device is working properly"?

Cheers

I had the same problem when i first installed the wheel.... just unplug the
USB connector and plug it back in while the computer and the wheel are both
running, that did it for me. If you for some reason is using the serial,
then i don't know, perhaps you should try plugging it in the other com port.

PS: When you finally get it going, you will most likely be feeling it was
worth the trouble

Try removing your COM ports from the device manager and reboot.
W98 will detect them and reconfigure them.

Yeh that is right, I have a serial port connector.  The serial port
works, as my mouse can be hooked up to it and works fine.

Thx

I seem to have done this once by accident, but I will try with both
ports and see what happens.  Last resort prior to taking the wheel
apart, have already reinstalled the OS ;-(
I am getting the impression that the wheel is faulty.
