Sound card question again

by Igor » Wed, 19 Mar 2003 06:17:22

Hi guys,

I don't like the sound that my built in sound card produces.
I already asked this question but the cards that were recommended (SantaCruz
and SB Audigy 2)
are 5 in 1 and too expensive for me right now.

I found the following chip cards:
1. CMI 8378 4 CHANNEL PCI SOUND CARD
2. SOUND  BLASTER  PCI 128

Any experience with these cards?
Will a not built in PCI sound card improve the sound quality?

/Igor

Not sure about the first, but I have the second in a server box (aka sits
there not making sounds) and I wouldn't recomend it for anything else.

I had a PCI128 many moons ago and had no issues that I remember.  It
may be worth letting us know exact symptoms as a new sound card may
not be the answer, but it may simply be down to a couple of tweeks.

What do you mean when you say you sdon't like the sound?  Is it
actually corrupted in some way?

Mark

Both are junk, compared to today's standards.

How about Hercules Muse 5.1? It's only like $30-35 in the US

There are two things I don't like:
1. In F12002/GTR when a car's wheel hits the curb after exiting from a turn
the sound I hear
something like crackling . In the GTR mod the sound of a car is so noisy and
not real. With the same
crackling noise. Ii just hard to describe

2. When I load a track with audio track description on the background it
sound like this:
    Thiiii-sss-tra-aa-aa--a-kk wa-wa-s-s bu-i-ii-ll-tt  etc.
The speech is stretched and crackling as well.

My recommendation?  If that is the only thing on your list right now, throw
away the list and save up until you can get a TBSC.

Really...
