Sound card question!

Sound card question!

by Dino » Sat, 03 Apr 1999 04:00:00

I just installed a SoundBlaster Live Value in my p2 350 to replace the
integrated SB audio pci 64V that came with my system, the new card sounds
great but I now have a slight decrease in fps in most of  my 3dfx games
which is puzzling since everyone else reports a noticeable increase in fps
with the Live Value.
I was thinking about using the 64V as a game port and the Live strictly for
sound but am having configuration problems.
Is it possible for these two sound cards to coexist?

Thanks for any help!

Sound card question!

I'm not an expert in these matters simply because my new Gateway is the
first machine I've owned with integrated audio.  But from what I understand,
it's never a good idea to try to use the integrated soundcard in one way,
and a new one in another, i.e.  the joystick port of the old one, and the
new one for sound.  When you installed the Live card did you disable your
old soundcard in the BIOS?  If you haven't I suggest you do and then see if
you still see any fps decrease (or increase!) in your games.  I have a
special interest in your post because I am thinking of getting the Live card
myself in the near future, and would hate to loose performance due to
incompatibility with an integrated sound motherboard computer.  Good luck
and let us know how it goes.

Howdy,
You should delete your sound card drivers in Device Manager, before
you disable them in the BIOS under the Advanced_Periherials.

Ah yes! good call, forgot to mention that in my post.  Deleting the old
card's drivers BEFORE disabling it in the BIOS would be smart :)
