Talladega Qualifying (v1.2) Am I nuts?

by Pete Fanni » Mon, 10 Apr 1995 04:00:00

Ok, so I'm running NASCAR Racing v1.2 and I qualified at Talladega
with the opponent strength set to 92%.  My car is the #83 Pepsi Ford
Thunderbird.  Below is the starting grid.  What is wrong with this
picture?

Anybody notice that I'm FASTER than Bill Elliott?  Then why in the
heck am I starting at the rear!

I have posted this problem on Papyrus' BBS (Publicly).

I'm no math Wizard, but shouldn't I have the pole?

You are not completing the TWO qualifying laps that you get at
Talledega. All the other tracks you only get one but because of
Talledega's speed you need the extra lap. Just keep racing until you see
the checkered flag.

This also happened to me: drove me nuts!!!

Someone mentioned this "bug" before - If you speed in the pits on
qualifying, you automatically get bumped to the back of the grid.

Not in my copy.  I do it all the time in order to heat the tires as fast
as fast as possible.

Same thing happened to me, I checked the standings after Qualifying and noticed I was last
when I qualified way ahead of the first car.  The standings didn' t change during warmup, BUT when I
started the race I ended up in pole position.  It all seemed to work out, only I had to wait until the race.

Someone mentioned THIS before as well.  I speed in the pits when I
qualify all the time with no retribution.  The magic word here is
Talladega.  Are you (Pete) making sure you run both laps in
qualifying?  Running 1 qual lap at Tal = Starting 42d.

Betcha a dollar to a donut you didn't compete the entire qualifying run.
You have to run the whole distance to get any credit, apparently.

I just bought the game and have been plaing it all weekend.  I had the same problem, until I figured out
that you need to run three laps for the qualifying round.

Pete,

1) You have to run three laps around Talladega to complete a successful run
(your warmup lap from the pits and 2 green laps).

2) I think(and I'm not TOTALLY sure about this) you have to complete the run on
your first attempt. It might be just like real 'Cup qualifying. If you don't make the
show on the first try, you don't get a shot at the front.

Try running 3 good laps around the track on your first try and see if that helps.
