IMHO, the following that RC2000 has among the GPL crowd has less to do
with the physics (which - even fully tweaked - are a couple
generations behind something like Rally Masters) and more to do with
the ability to create a realistic experience in terms of the gameplay
aspects.  You can run a full BRC on real BRC courses with realistic
damage (if tuned) and a simple yet challenging and fun repair/tuning
system.

I absolutely abhor the way the cars drive but there's no other game
that captures the essence of rallying, that is, long stages through
beautiful but brutal terrain which serves as a test of endurance for
both the car and the driver.  Rally Trophy could have the most
realistic handling ever (altho personally I find Rally Masters and
Rallisport Challenge more convincing, if flawed) and it doesn't mean
***because you're twiddling around 2km stages.  If rallying really
consisted of driving indestructible cars for 2 minutes at a time, it
would cease to be a tier 1 motorsport.

FWLiftSideways=(1.0) // dropoff in downforce with yaw (0.0 = none, 1.0
= max)
RWLiftSideways=(1.0) // dropoff in downforce with yaw (0.0 = none, 1.0
= max)
DiffuserSideways=(1.0) // dropoff with yaw (0.0 = none, 1.0 = max)

And of course brake pressure set to at least 100.  Not perfect, but
certainly not any further from being convincing/realistic than GPL is
with its indestructible brakes/tires and ridiculous slip angles.  At
least F1 2002's ridiculous slip angles can be fixed by modifying the
above 3 lines.

As in what exactly, because then it must be undocumented because the
only thing I could find in the readme's to the 1.1 and 1.2 patch that
would affect normal gameplay in any way is the increased minimum ride
height

Still not sure on exactly how to install this ----

The webpage says to "just put the contents of the .ace file into a new
folder called Road Atlanta".

But, exactly where in F1 2002's and GTR2002's menu structure should this
new folder be created?  Does this need to be done twice?  (Once for F1
2002 and once for GTR 2002?)  And do I really include EVERYTHING from
the .ace file?  (The .ace file includes its own "Season02" and "Save"
folders...)

Any clarification on this would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Bert

The Road Atlanta track folder goes into GTR2002Season\Tracks.  The *.svm
file goes into GTR2002Save, and the setup into GTR2002Save\YOUR PLAYER
NAME\Settings\Road Atlanta.

For F1 2002, the track folder goes into Season02\Tracks, the *.svm into
Save & the setup into Save\YOUR PLAYER NAME\Settings\Road Atlanta.

will this also influence the five laps full distance problem
with Road Atlanta or could somebody provide a game.gdb entry
that has the correct stats for this track?

Oh shut up....:-), never claimed to be an expert on GPL anyways and I'm
too old to go around remembering everything that's being said in this NG

The settings are in a text file called game_ra.txt in the Season02 folder.
The latter part of the file has a section that has to be added to the
game.gdb.

Better than that, I think.  As much as I love GTR, the insides of the
tin-tops make them look like 1950s Schuco nodel cars vs. the highly nuanced
GPL***pits w, every piece of switchgear correctly placed, the bolsters
perfectly textured, and the light glinting ogg the instrument bezels...not
to mention some breathtaking scenery in add-ons like Le Mans, Castle Combe,
and Lime Rock.

Yes, Steve. I love the authentic gauges in the GPL updates, letaher
stitched steering wheels, glare from the instrument glass, dirty mirrors
etc. It just gives the right feeling somehow. The only other sim to have
a similar effect is RC2000 - feeling isolated with your co-driver in a
cold dark forest (ooer)

Something's gone amiss here.  I was actually criticising DGF for attacking
you like you were a GPL nazi.  Oh well...

Isn't it traditional to kill a thread once someone mentions the nazis?
