F1GP2 Demo Played !

by Matthew Gibson-For » Mon, 11 Sep 1995 04:00:00

I've just this minute got back from the ECTS show in LONDON and
had the chance to try out a demo of F1GP2 :-)

Geoff Crammond only gave Microprose the demo late last night
apparently and here's what I saw :-

1) There is MORE than 1 car racing !!!
2) The demo only had MONZA (due to the fact that MONZA was
today I guess.)
3) MONZA was up-to-date and lot's more realistic.
5) I didn't really look at the driver list, but I was told that
there will be empty spaces where SENNA & RATZENBURGER were in
94.

NOW ON TO THE JUICY DETAILS !

1) The demo only ran in VGA (no SVGA at the moment). I think
all the SVGA type screnshots I've seen were rigged, hence only
1 car visible. I may be wrong though.

2) The suggested Frames P/s given by what I was told was a P90
was 18.5 odd. Not 25. There was a menu item that allowed you to
increase the speed to 25, but the game slowed down noticeably.
NOTE : ALL THE DETAIL WAS ON !
NOTE : Pressing 'O' on 1 machine there gave Occupancy = 85 %
(P90 ?) the other machine gave 165% (dx266?)

3) The Texture-mapped cars when driving, look the BUSINESS ! as
you might of guessed from the screenshots.

4) The demo had no TRACKSIDE-CAM but, the external views were
as follows :-
 i) Above / Behind -- As F1Gp1
ii) Front wing cam -- Pretty Impressive but seems slow FPS.
iii) Rear wing cam -- Ditto
iv) Front***pit View - Ala Damon Hill. Watch his head move !
 v) Roll-bar view - Good as well

5) THE BEST FEATURE ... When you hit the kerbing the car
rolls, bounces and then spins all over the place. I tried
flying into the 1st chicane to see if I could get airbourne..
No trouble. I replayed from several of the external views.
Spectacular is an Under-estimate !

6) The grip seems a little funny, but, so I was told, that is
a feature that Geoff is still working on.

7) The***pit had no working mirrors. (Again Goeff is working
on it)

8) There is now an LED REV limit display at the top of the
***pit display. Comes in very handy !

9) The Menu System is greatly improved. Very helpful and lovely
track view graphics !

That's about it for now. If anyone has any particular questions
about the Demo etc.. (ie. things I have not mentioned above but
mave have actually noticed while playing it).
Email me or post a mesage and I will try to answer it.

NOTE :- Things I was told may be wrong due to the fact that It
was noisy at the show and also my e***ment might have taken
over my memory a little :-)

Yes, I have a question.
What does the***pit look like? something like WC1 or like Indycar (that is
with wheels)...

Cheers,

Harald

Just a couple of things

1) What are the crashes/accidents like?
    Any flying bodywork, spins etc?

2) Do you get smoke/dirt like you do in indycar?

Cheers

1) The crashes are action packed. The car spins, bounces, and glides through the air (ie.
when you hit a kerb). I didn't see any bodwork fly around. Maybe the demo hadn't got that
feature in it ?

2) Again, didn't see any, but that's not to say the final release won't have it.
