GPL: practice/race transition

Hey everyone -

I've been trying out some novice races in GPL,
but am confused about what's supposed to happen
when the practice session ends.  For instance,
where should I be located?  In the pit lane?  Or
in the previous screen?

Last night I switched back and forth between the
two over a period of several _minutes_.  And then
finally something happened and I wound up on
the grid.

go back to the pits and leave the car if the session is over. you can do
this by stopping the car and pressing ESC then ENTER. but you can finish
your lap if you haven't already taken the checkered flag ... btw: since
GPL 1.1 you are not able to get back into your car after the session
hast ended.

OK - the way it works is that after practice officially closes
cars complete their laps and return to the pits.  This can take some
time.  There's a considerable "grace" period after the end of free
practice before the race starts.  Best to click accelerated time and
skip to the race.  Wish it didn't make that stupid fuzzing noise while
doing it - that drives me crazy.

Umm, since the 'fuzzing' is a noise we must be able to change that WAV
file too.  Maybe use the announcer voice or just piece and quiet?  I'm not
a GPL sound guru, so this will be left up to the pros out there.

Jason.

You're right.  The filename is static.wav.  You can put any wavefile you
wish into your GPL\SOUND directory, rename it static.wav, and it will
replace the original sound in the game.

Steven, it's just like in real life: once the training session is
officially over, the cars that are still on the track are allowed to
finish their current lap. GPL will not proceed to the next session
before all cars are back in the pits. In a worst case scenario, this
could mean that an AI car has crossed the s/f line when there was only
one second left in the session. Now he does a fast lap and, after that
one, a slow lap coasting back to the pits. In Monza, this can add up
to four minutes easily. At the 'Ring - half an hour. :) (I never tried
racing at the Nuerburgring - still can't do a fast lap without
spinning at least once, so I don't know this for sure.)

Use the "accelerate time" button to speed things up and switch the
camera view to the last car on the track, so you can see when it comes
into the pits.

Using the Windows Audio-Recorder, I reduced the volume of static.wav
to nearly silence.
