ICR2 Rendition?

ICR2 Rendition?

by JT » Wed, 16 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I have owned ICR2 since it came out and have updated it so that I could play
it in Windows. Now I am shopping around for a 3D accelerator I was wondering
if I would be able to utilize a Rendition accelerator or if I would have to
buy the Rendition ICR2?

Thanks
Jeff

The Rendition version is named that because it only
works with a 3d video card that uses the Rendition
chipset.    Getting a 3d card for a 3 year old game
doesn't seem like the best of ideas,  Essentially you
would have a card that would play ICR2, N2/99 & GPL.
Now the Rendition set DOES do D3d but there are
many cards out there now that FAR outstrip it's
capabilites.     And remember, getting the Rendition
version of ICR2/CART is very difficult on the 2nd
generation Rendition cards(V2100 & V2200)  so
if you are dead set on JUST playing ICR2, then go
ahead, but look at what else your playing or plan
to play and decide if your purchase would
 really make sense.

You're said pretty much all I can say about this, as I agree with it
all.

I would like to get 30fps in ICR2 with all details on, but whether I
would actually want to spend the money, time and effort on _just_ this
is questionable.

Sorry JT; As far as I know the Rendition DOS version of ICR2 was
never 4sale as a stand alone sim! It came with Sierra's Screamin' 3D
viseo card with a bundle of games etc.. If you can find somone with
the CD try to install the game. It is out of production so I dont think
there is a problem in passing it to a friend but I could be wrong, So
check with Sierra to make sure..
Good luck Thom_j.

Good Point Dave Henrie; I do not want to run the GPL engine
in to the ground but if ICR2 or Cart would re-vamp these sims
with the GPL engine it would "kick" right into Y2K & beyond.
imho....;O) Thom_j.

Thom_j.
P.S. I have over 80 Icr2 tracks...

The "CART Racing" by Sierra has W95, DOS and Rendition versions all
on the same CD. In fact a bug in the setup program installs all
3 versions onto your HD. Look around the $9.95 CD sections at
Walmart, Staples, Office Depot and the like! Please note
"CART Racing" not ICR2.

You just need to have both ICR2/CART and NASCAR99 to get all of the tracks
to convert to GPL...for some reason, the NASCAR tracks convert MUCH better
than the ICR ones!

BTW how did you get over 80 ICR2 tracks?

Well Ex;
I have Louden, Phoenix, the Newer Glen & Brand Hatch.
4.. Right?? Cheers Thom_j.
P.S. I'd have Hickory too if I could load it but for some
reason I can't with n2>gpl.. That would be 5.. Right?

You have to be careful there even Buz.  I have that CART package with
all three versions.  But from what I've heard on this newsgroup,  Sierra
has repackaged the game again and left OUT the Rendition version,
If you purchase it and find no Rendition folder inside the dos folder,
then you won't have any 3d options.

Thanks, I phoned Sierra to confirm and they said that Cart has the Rendition
version but there is also a version of Cart in the All American Sports
Series which does not.
