3D Graphics Cards Drive Me Crazy!!!!

Drivers:

I have about had it with all these one on one implementation
of computer games and a specific computer game.  We have
had NASCAR implemented in native mode with the:

        Matrox card
        Diamond Virge
        Diamond Virge-VX??
        Rendition
        VOODOO???

4 Graphic cards in one year....  BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

All these games are implemented in NATIVE DOS mode and
there is no standard.  I dont want to buy 4 graphic
cards to run 4 games..

THE QUESTION!!!

Since I have just completed driving the SEGA DAYTONA which
by the way runs in DIRECTX mode using WINDOWS 95 and work
GREAT. The FRAME RATES ARE MAX and YOU DONT HAVE TO TURN OFF
any GRAPHICS.  When will we see Papyrus and MicroProse come out
with a DIRECTX implementation of thier games using some
standard *** SDK protocols to implement 3D features??

Give us a break!!!!!

Don Wilshe, IVGA

PS.     Maybe Microsoft will give us a stock car racing
game!!!!!!!!!    MONSTER STOCK CAR RACING!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been asking for a Win95 version of Nascar for quite some time
(since back when Rick Genter was still with Papyrus).  With the NRO
needing Win95 anyway and adding in the use of DirectX (especially
DirectX 5.0 which includes the new DrawPrimitive, DirectInput API Force
Feedback, and DirectSound 3D HAL), you'd have a natural winner.

I thought I heard that MS dropped plans to support Direct Input Forse Feedback? Has that changed, or
am I hearing things again?

They dropped it from DirectX 3.0 and are picking it up in 5.0 which is
due out in June.  See:

First off DIRECTX is not that great, I had MTM installed and it was
terrible compared to running N2 or ICR2 under DOS in Rendition mode.
Secondly, I am a firm believer that the more stuff you have running
the slower things will go. Games with the CPU intensity of N2 are
better off in a DOS environment than under Win95. Unless your running
a 200MMX with 32/64meg of ram. I run with a P100 and 16meg of ram and
it flies under DOS, but crawls under Win95.

I think that a big reason that Papyrus hasn't written to MS's "standards"
is the fact that they change monthly. I sure would not want to invest the time
and money needed to develope for a "standard" that is not going to be the
standard the following month.
I think quite a few software and one major hardware (Intel) company
have been "bitten" by this and therefore they kinda wait around to see which
"standard" MS decides to stick with before committing to using it. I don't blame
them one bit.
        Just my $0.02,
        Ralph

Yep. I agree. One thing is certain. The Rendition is getting the most
support,
N2,ICR2, & flightsims.

I think you can forget MPS's support with GP2. Your only option is to get
the add-ons which are available via the net, (like the new carset which
kicks
ass). Lack of support for GP2 is so lame I almost got Power F1 today!

YIKES!

Your 16 MBytes of RAM are not enough to run any significant programs
under W95.  Fry's (shudder) has 16MB EDO SIMMs for $66 in their current
newspaper adverti***t.  I certainly wouldn't want to have less than
32 MB these days.

REPLY:

This isn't true. There is no proof that the Rendition is getting anymore
support than voodoo, and if I were held at gun point to choose nonetheless I
would state voodoo will garnish more native support in time.

Above states N2 and ICR2 Yep. But again I think there's a voodoo N2 on the
way...

Flight sims is wishful thinking.

And soon one could say that F1 by Psygnosis is a voodoo direct only, to go
against ICR2, less talking about the actual quality of the game. IFFF N2 comes
out for the voodoo and is better yet then verite's, I will probably then lean
towards the voodoo as the card of choice with a but in there. That but is if
somebody is getting a new system and is $$$ strapped I would still recommend a
rendition based card at least until the Rush is released.

Ok, buy the RAM and send it down then :>. Can't find it that cheap
around here and really can't afford it right now. 16meg works just
fine as for all my games that I run in DOS. And I don't own any games
specifically for Win95 and don't play to buy any until I can afford
not only a memory upgrade, but a processor upgrade also.

But you yourself did make the help the point I was trying to make.
Win95 is a memory hog and totally useless for ***.

Rumor had it that MS "delayed" support of Force Feedback so they could
be the first on the block with the needed hardware.

Really?!!!!

Where are you lloking for your info? As far as I can see Voodoo 3dFX
is the one getting the mainstream support, dedicated Rendition support
is notable by its absence only.

Cheers!
John
