Super 1 Karting

Damn nice game.  And for once I can compare the sim to the real thing.  If
you like this sort of racing, this is extremely fun.  Especially good for a
quick game of racing.  The graphics are awesome.  Get off the track and you
start bouncing around exactly like real life.  I highly recommend it.

I got the full version.  I was actually out with some karts this weekend.
There are some flaws, but I think a lot of it has to do with the "feel" of
the race.  About the only thing that got me was that it was next to
impossible to slide through the turns.  The acceleration/deceleration was
pretty good as was normal turning.  For what I believe to be the first kart
sim, it did pretty well, at least well enough until I get to play with karts
in another year.

Pav,

I have done some Kart racing and tried the Super 1 demo and was
disappointed. Do you have the full version? Is it better than the demo?
Do you consider it a racing game or a racing sim?

Thanks
Larry

I tried the demo, and while it may be fun - it is nothing like the real
thing, in which I have plenty of experience. The main problem with the demo
is IMO the slow and unresponsive steering and the unrealistic brakes, but it
is possible that they made at least the steering adjustable in the full
version. Has anyone played the full version yet ?

cheers,
Alex

The physics of the full version are the same as in the demo version.
I love it, I think it's very realistic, and I've done my share of real
life Karting too. AI is very good, agressive and very competitive,
excellent physics and force feedback (which can be adjusted in a lot
of ways), changeable weather, realistic damage, reasonable setup
options (haven't experimented with those though) and graphically
everything looks just right.

If you like Karting, you shouldn't miss this one imho. Just check out
the demo before you buy, it gives a good impression of the full game
(except for the AI which has been improved greatly since the demo).

Negative points: Only 10 tracks, no indoor tracks, and unfortunately
no track editor. Now that would have been great, to be able to build
all my favorite real life tracks...

For all you Dutch people, be sure to visit the new karting centre in
Delft. 4 storages, superb tracks, and if you go on Sunday evening, the
2 biggest tracks are connected. Imho the best karting track in
Holland. And they also have 4 x the Ferrari 355 Challenge :)

I agree, they really got this right. The in-kart view is spot on, and the
graphics are great down to the details.

The only thing, i don't like, it's the multiplayer play through Kali, isn't good
at all, poor framerate !!!!!, even unplayable online !!!, don't know about Lan
play though?!

Not sure about that? *** had an excellent Kart game (wouldn't quite
call it a sim, but the physics were darn good!) called "Super Karts".

There was also the rather dire "Manic Karts", and ISTR another one too,
the name of which, escapes me?

Just tried the demo again and it is a lot worse than I remember. Perhaps
it is my machine PIII 500 V3000  128 megs ram SBLive, but the frame
rates are so bad it is undrivable. Also it seems that only single axis
controller is available or something weird that applies the break as you
let off the gas. Like going fast into a corner I let off and it
screeches to a halt. I have that weird "F10" arcade view I can't seem to
change, then it changes by itself. It jerks all over the place and is in
a word undrivable. I have heard these types of complaints before and it
is usually a simple adjustment I am missing but I can't seem to get it
to work. Needless to say very difficult to get too e***d about the
full version.

Any one with an obvious fix or something I may be missing?

I have a PII450, Voodoo 2, 96 megs RAM and I have no problem with frame
rates.

try setting your controller to single axis...

if u have it set to dual axis which it sounds like u do, u will see that
gas/brake problem

Thanks Martyn, That cured the braking problem but there is still a long
delay between turning the steering wheel and turning the Kart. Still not
possible to drive an entire lap. and yes it could be that I am just lame
but I have no problems with any other sims. I am getting into kart
racing and would love to have good sim but I am still stumped. Thanks
again
