There's a cfg file in the main directory, open it and change the
deadzone settings to 0. This will cure your steering problems (it did
for me at least). I have a PIII 500, resolution 1024 and all details
to the max + 24 AI drivers, and have a perfectly smooth fps.

To your viewing problem: when a race starts, you will see your kart
from the outside view. Just before you cross the start line and you
get to control the kart, the view switches to your last chosen view.
Configure one of your buttons to select the cam view, and choose your
preferred view as soon as the race starts.

This game is really good, I spent a couple of hours with it yesterday.
Liked it from the beginning, and after a couple of hours the game only
grew on me.

Andre,

Thanks for the reply. It does appear that the deadzone is the problem
and I can see a gp.cfg files in the main directory but don't know how to
open it. Is this the one and how do I open it?

That's the one.  Double-click it & it'll prompt you what you want to
open it with.  Select Notepad.  All the way at the bottom is where the
dead zone setting is.  Before this tweak, I couldn't drive these things
with any control at all.  Now they're a real blast!  Do these things
really slide around this much in real life though?  I've had to use a
lot of opposite lock!

When you give too much gas in a corner the cars spins just as easily
as it does in real life.  Karting is a perfect way to learn how to
drive the perfect lines and keeping speed through corners.
When I Karted for the first time, I felt that I was going very fast
since my tires were screeching all the time, and I braked so late
before a corner that I had to use all my strength to turn around the
corner.
As you can imagine, my lap times were way below average.
I soon learned how to brake just a tad earlier, so I could carry more
speed through the corner and get faster out of the corner.
Same thing goes for the game, when you hear your tires screeching,
you're doing something wrong...

Man, I did a lot wrong last night when I won a heat & got 2nd in the
race!<g>  Got beat just yards from the S/F line.  You're right though, I
was quicker with less tire squeal.  Still had quite a bit though.  Think
my best lap was 55.6xx, this is whatever track you get in the demo.
When will it be released in the States?

I've finally found a racing game that catches my interest since I found
out about GP3. After much screwing around convincing the stupid demo
that it should not talk to the old Diamond Monster card but to the TNT2
card, it ran. After 1 race using the keyboard, I plugged in the wheel
and voila, instant racing cred. It's been a while since I have driven a
kart, and this game reminded me just how much fun it is. The physics
are great, though I have found that it sometimes jumps and I find
myself either stopped or off the track. Don't know why. The fact that
the AI cars can blast me away down the straight pisses me off.
Otherwise, they are slow, my best lap time for the demo is 54.1xx. I
just don't know how to***around with the setup.

Frame rate is great on my P2 233 192mb TNT2/32mb with 800x600 with
medium detail and 12 cars.

If I had the money I would buy it without hesitation and wait to
upgrade my PC before GP3.

Thanks for all the help but I'm done with Super Karting. Can NOT get it
to drive anything like a kart and it might be something with my setup
but any more effort and it is time for another sim. Best of luck to all
and again thanks for the help.
