Because I'm too lazy to try and dig out the URL for the West Brothers
site, I'll ask here: what's become of their long-gestating WSC sim? Is
it just vaporware, or is it really gonna be launched? Seems that by the
time it gets out of the gate (at this rate) they're going to have to
change their carsets, or make it a "Legends" thing...

It's in full production.  Unfortunately the producer Infogrames has put a
mandatory stop on any kind of public information, and they need their
approval to release such things.

Anyway WSC is almost a "fantasy" racing sim as it will feature cars from
many eras and perhaps tracks from different eras also.

Does Infogames own Empire? I thought Empire is the producer.

That's not a bad thing, maybe then they'll have more time to right code
instead of telling the world how great their code will be.

Question: If there's a***order, how do you know it's in full production?

The Wests are still hard at it, AFAIK. Sadly the powers that be
(Infogrames) are of the standard "how dare our developers speak to
anyone ever" school of thought, so we won't get much beyond bland[1]
press releases for some while.

[1] Relatively speaking. A bland press release for WSC is a damn sight
more interesting than most things!

Since it's not scheduled until Q3-2001, isn't "vaporware" a bit
harsh?

I'm not sure, thought it was Infograme who owned Empire.  Could be the
opposite, but I think the "official" producer at the moment is Empire, your
right.

What else do you think their doing?  Practicing their GPL setups for a
online racing championship?

So, 15 months ago it was 12 months away (if I read that right).
Today it's about 6 months way.  We may not be there yet, but we're
getting there quicker...

Just asking, dewd -- didn't know about the Q301 date (I told you I was
lazy!); just seemed to be a long time in gestation.

Let me get this straight, Frank -- were you actually wrong for once?
