We have posted a Special on World Sports Cars, with a multi-page First Look,
27 new screenshots and a dedicated forum.

"Always wanted to race with sports cars from famous marquees like Ferrari,
Riley & Scott and Lola on world-famous circuits like Circuit de la Sarthe
(Le Mans), Daytona, Spa-Francorchamps, Monza, etc? Who wouldn't... Well,
Chris and Tony West, from West Racing Ltd., are currently working on what
should become one of the most realistic racing sims since Papyrus' (not very
well selling) Grand Prix Legends. From Q2/Q3 2000 you will be able to join
in on the sports car racing fun in West Racing's latest title; World Sports
Cars."

Well, I'd like to believe they have modelled the compliance of the ***
etc. etc., but I think you will find it is just a case of clipping in the
display of intersecting polygons.  however, if they prove me wrong, I'll
eat my copy of "Racecar Engineering" (well, maybe a page or two).

This quote from the article should whet your appetite hehe...

"The cars are modelled through the contact patches of the tyres with the road,
and nothing else. No fudging, no canned effects. The tyre model is using the
latest technique from the SAE dynamic conferences. Also modelled are the
weight and mass transfer of the car, the suspension movement and much more."

I guess it's time for you to ingest that information in your book for good. :P

Well, I'm still holding back on my meal.  The tyre models they refer to
are basic relationships between slip angle, downforce and coefficient of
friction.  Their mention of contact patches most likely just means that
the resultant sideforces are applied at four distint points where the
*** meets the road instead of one central mass point.  not to knock it,
this is a fairly sophisticated way to do it.  But a dynamic model of
compliant tires?  Not in real time on a PC.

Still, I'm stocking up on ketchup in case these boys can do something most
PhDs can't.

We are going to be in Sim Heaven if they can reproduce the sound of the Judd
V10.

Of course, I won't say the same for the neighbors<vbg>.

The 333SP featured in the shots is, as far as I can see, equipped with
rain-tires.
Pirelli's - I would imagine.

All major racing car series is the world, bar F1, use slick tires today...

often, when cars are being worked on or in transport or storage, they put rain
tires on them...at least they do for sure on CART champ cars...not sure about
sports cars though

God bless,

A 333 SP doesn't have susension movement! <g>
Or about 4-5cms I should imagine...Full no-droop pushrod on all 4 corners.

Mmm, I'm getting sweaty!

The anticipation building behind this sim sounds alot like GPL a year and
half ago. I hope it can live up to it and to GPL.
