Help with DirectX 6.1 and games running using D3D

by Philste » Wed, 30 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I installed TA: Kingdoms without installing Direct X 6.1.
The game would not work. I then installed it with
DirectX 6.1. Some of my other games now don't work
(all games using D3D... main example: EA Superbikes
World Championship). For those games, I can only
run them in "software" acceleration, which is
not good. I went to the Diamond website and the
most recent drivers date back to March 99. What
should I do to solve my problem? I really like
TA: Kingdoms, but can't accept the fact that my
other games don't work anymore.

Here's my pc:

PII 400
Diamond Monster 3D II (12 mb)
Diamond Stealth II G460 (8mb)
Sound Blaster PCI 128
128 mb of Ram
DirectX 6.1 (of course)

Help would be appreciated.

Have you tried reinstalling EA Superbikes since DirectX 6.1 was installed?

Nope... do you think this will make any difference? Also, does it mean
that I have to reinstall all the games that don't work since the
installation of DirectX 6.1?

I've used this fix for other problems such as sound or controller
configuration problems and it has *almost* always worked. I never could get
TOCA to run right on my PII 400 but then GPL came along and I didn't
care<g>.

You might try uninstalling the Sim and then performing the PC tune-up tips
by F1 Filter at the Unofficial MGPRS2 site http://www.mgprs2.com/
and then reinstalling.

good luck
