GPL newbie - CD question

by Frank Leinfelde » Fri, 09 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Hi GPL fans,

[Sorry for my English...]

I've got a problem with playing (installing?) GPL:

The installation from CD-ROM is ok.
After starting the game, the main menu appears:
I am able to add a driver (name, nation, helmet colour,...),
change the configuration (keyboard/steering wheel settings,
graphics) and can even watch the default replays (one day I
have to check that ring layout with the real "Nordschleife").

Now, when I want to start a training/racing session, it displays
a message telling me that this action requires the original CD
in the CD drive (which is already there!), but it doesn't even
check the CD (CD drive: no noise, light is off).

So what's wrong there?

It might have something to do with the driver for the CD-ROM,
but on the other hand all other games needing a CD have no
problem with my system:
Celeron 300, 64 MB memory, 36x CD-ROM, <some video card>
Windows 98
GPL v1.0.0.0 (german version;
the patched version v1.2.x.y also didn't work)

Thanks,
Frank

That's strange, because I don't need the CD in the drive to run it...

Sorry.

Andrew

PS your english is fine.

Sorry I can't help you with the actual problem but go to
http://www.the-fastlane.com/patches.shtml
and get the No-CD patch. That way it won'trequire you to have the CD in the
drive.

Thats because Sierra doesn't trust us evil Europeans enough to let us play
without proving we own the game :o)

Wierd, we get to play GPL online without the CD but not singleplayer.

They don't trust us American, redneck NASCAR racin' fans either if we
want to race on-line.  Hate to put you in that sort of company, but,
there you go... <g>

Use GPLMod 1.3 to remove the CDCheck

GPL newbie - CD question

Hello GPL fans,

Last weekend I had some time left for this game (about 3 hours :() -
GPL is now working (GPLMod 1.3 did the trick, thanks Arnaud!).
I guess the installation of a SCSI card (scanner) last year
resulted in my difficulties getting GPL working...

Wow, what a hard game - it doesn't take much for the car to spin
(funny feature to see your own skid marks on the track).

I practiced some laps in Monza and of course on the Nuerburgring;
my best lap times are 1:59.76 / 12:56.93 so far (both with the
Brabham beginner car (F3?) and default setup), so there's _much_
room for improvement! :)

Thanks for your help,
Frank

That's a pretty good start for F3 times Frank.

As a guide, the really fast guys are doing 1:51-52 and 9:40 (ish). Get rid
of the Brabham though mate if you race online in F3. It's too ***y fast in
comparison with the other cars <G>
