Amen! I was in a race a Kalami and the host (My best friend and racing
partner) missed the start of the race.  So, he jumps in and watches the race
from my car!  Oh about 2 laps into the race I spin out, as I am trying to
get back onto the track, I spin a few doughnuts in the grass. Out of the
corner of my eye, I see a typed message of, "Take it easy on the gas".
Driving instructions! Thats all I need! Him watching and giving me driving
instructions! Now, I have only run a handful of laps at Kalami and will be
the first to tell you that I am slow. But, during a race! I don't need
instruction on how to race. I get back on the track, just steaming about the
fact he is watching me and telling me how to drive. So I try to prove to
him, I can race at kalami...Big mistake! One lap left, I notice the leader
about to lap me, and out of the corner of my eye, I see, "Better hurry up

race. In the post-race chat, I get bumped off and try to reconnect. no luck.
Good, I was a little to upset to talk/chat at that point. So, later that
day, I call him up, and told him how upset I was at him for trying to give
me driving lessons during that race.  He said, "What?" So, I told him I saw
the "Take it easy on the gas" message. He started laughing and said he told
me to, "Take it easy on his grass!"  We both a quite the laugh after that!

Now that I can finally play, I have a few questions for the experts and
others in my case :
- When you play which camera option do you use ? The***pit or the rear
view one. I suspect you switch to the***pit when you are use to a
track. Correct ?
- As a newbie I only run Monza so far. I have tweaked the set ups (and
used some found on the net before) and can remain in the 1'30 pretty
much consistantly. The problem is that I don't seem to have enough speed
in the straights to make better hot laps. What setting would improve
high speed ? Lowering the car, more clutches ??
- I made the pole yesterday (with a miserable 1'30'49 compared to most
of you guys) but when I start I don't have any grips due to the tires
revs. Any technique/technical tips ?
- How can I "see" (meaning being a spectator) some online races ?

I am now having a blast after more than a month been frustrated due to
technical problems with my PC, but let me say that one thing that made
me keep up with it was really the fun you all seem to have and , I'll
admit, the fun I have now.

Please share your hints.
Thanks.

The most important thing for getting good speed down a straight is
nailing the corner before it and getting on the throttle as much as
possible as soon as possible on the corner exit.

Setup tweaks that help with top speed involve reducing rolling
resistance: increased tire pressures and minimizing toe in/out.  Also,
your gearing can have an effect on top speed.

For me, the keys to a good lap at Monza are a perfect 2nd Lesmo and
braking as late as possible for Curva Grande without losing the proper
line.

Hope this helps,

Aaron

I thought toe in/out in GPL didn't affect top speed?! (ok, it's a
bug).
