I have a P-166mmx with 64 meg/ram, 8 meg video and its not worth it.  I have
to remove almost all graphics and still, the frame rate is about 10.  I'll
keep the game and wait to do a hardware upgrade...

Paul,

I have a p200mmx, 96ram, and a diamond m3d voodoo 1 card.  I can race with
about 5 AI cars with about 16-18 fps.  But if you change the view to the
roll-bar view (you need to change something in one of those *.ini files to
get this view), you will get a better rate.  Although there are no mirrors
in the roll-bar view, I do get 21-25 with about 5-8 AI cars with this view.
In Multiplayer-- depending on the connection-- I can get much better.

But if you want the most for what you have go for the F10 view.  Again, no
mirrors, but I've gotten used to this view and now drive it exclusively.
During training mode I get 34-36; and with 5-6 AI cars I get 26-30 or
thereabouts.

All this is with all the dynamic stuff off, sound set to low quality (again,
adjusted in the *.ini file), and terrain textures and crowds off.  Also, I
have my trackside objects view set to "many".

Overall I am pleased with the rates I've gotten.  So until I get a better
computer, I'll have to just be satisfied with what I have and what I can do
with it.

In short, I think you can swing it with what you have-- providing you're
willing to put up with less.

but anyways...

2 questions.

1. where can i dnload the demo? - the 5 sites listed on www.papy.com
NEVER work - ftp errors
2. i am running a p200mmx, 64mb, diamond m3d voodoo 2 card 8mb - am i
going to get acceptable frame rates?  i would
download the demo to test rather than post to the ng, but i can't find a
download site that works...

Thanks for your help.

I have a P200mmx 32mb ram and a 6mb Pure3d voodoo1 card
Sure i turn down all the graphics and i even run at 512 res (but 640 is
acceptable fps)
and get around 30 fps with 5 cars 25 fps in the pits and love the game.
I'd love to have all the graphics on but i don't drive to look at the
scenery, i drive to race and have a heap of fun. I guess it just depends on
your priorities.

I have a 200mmx oc'd to 225 (now pushing it to 250), 64MB, V1 (Pure3D) and I
consider the framerate much better than acceptable, though not as good as I'd
like (of course).

actually the demo runs quite differently than the full release. with the
demo you will get acceptable frame rates but not in the full release, it
requires 350-400mhz to run all graphics and cars. get the demo here
http://www.racesimcentral.net/, this is the longest running gpl
site, there are almost 20 gpl only sites. have fun, it's a *** at first.

My system: P200MMX/ 64M RAM/ Diamond Monster 1/ AWE64 Gold/ InterAct V3

In training I'm getting 34-36 fps with a little tweeking of the options.
Mainly reducing the number of sounds to three and reducing mirror detail.
Racing the AI: I usually get reduced fps when in the middle of the pack or
during starts. Oncec it thins out framerates return to normal. Reduced stats
hover around 25-28fps which require a little more attention and caution but
are acceptable.
Multiplayer: last race run included 12 drivers on a cable server. Again, the
start saw a drop in the framerate but the car was still controllable and a
little more caution saw me through the pack. Once clear framerates increased
to an acceptable level of around 32fps and didn't dip much lower than that.
Finished fourth on the Glen out of ten that completed the race.

You have enough system to enjoy the game is the bottom line. You will,
however, want to upgrade the system to a 350-450 range once you've played.
As for the retail version..the cars require a delicate touch and you can
forget trying to use the keyboard or joystick for control if you want to be
competitive...though a few might disagree with me.

If you're looking for a detail SIM; then you've found it. Don't bother
with the demo; buy the retail version. If you're looking for a casual
arcade-style driving game move on...cause this isn't it.

That's not entirely true.. There are some things that can be done to get
better fps - I have Sound Quality set to 0 and car shadows disabled, so
when I put that together with turning down the detail bias I get between
28 and 36fps when racing against 9 cars. This is with all textures bar
clouds and beveled tyres ON. All on my MMX P200 with an 8MB Herc
Thriller Rendition card.

Cheers!
