GPL Newbie Question

Just got the game and am having a blast.  I was wondering if the cars in
the game had a speed readout, or just a tach?  I couldn't figure out how to
display my speed and just figured they didn't have speedometers.  Is this
true?  Sure would make it easier to learn the turns if I could aim for a
proper speed, but I guess you just have to go by feel....

Hi!

It's true, the cars don't have speedometers. But don't worry about that. You'll
learn very quick to drive without. You just have to listen to your car. Listen
to the engine, to the sqealing of the tires. That gives a much better feel of
the car's behaviour than a gauge displaying some numbers. Be patient and
practise for a week or two and then tell me if I was right or wrong.

No speedos in the real cars= no speedos in GPL<g>. Go by gear and RPM, or
just by feel....

Yes, the speedometer tells you how fast you're going, not how fast you
can go.

1)  without the speedometer, as mentioned above, you will develope a sense
"feel" for driving after some practice.

2) You'll spend more time looking at whats ahead of you and not at your
console, which improves your driver safety online!

In the Arcade view, which I'm using quite a bit now in both GPL and N99, there
is a speed read-out. However, Grand Prix racing is pretty much flat-out on the
straights, with the corners designated by gears----and, of course, FEEL. So
it's not much more than a gee-whiz bit of info.
