Rendition ICR2 on Voodoo2?

Rendition ICR2 on Voodoo2?

by Tom Marshal » Sun, 28 Feb 1999 04:00:00

I am wondering if there is any way to get the rendition version of ICR2
to run on a Voodoo2 card. I've got both versions of the sim. When I
bought a new computer I chose the Diamond Monster Fusion Banshee for my
2d/3d card (16MB) and put in a Canopus Pure 3d2 accelerator. The rest of
my system is a P2 450 w/128 MB of RAM. All of my other games that has
support for 3dfx look and perform great. I just wish I could get the
rendition version of ICR2 to run on it.

Any help is appreciated,
Tom Marshall

That's not possible, as the Rendition rasterizer is only possible on
rendition-chipset video cards (Thus your being a Voodoo-chipset).

Just a quick question, why did you buy a banshee card and a voodoo2 card?

The banshee is a 2d/3d combo with the voodoo2 handling just 3d. Plus the
Canopus Pure 3d2 voodoo2 card has TV-out. I've ran the system without the
pure 3d2 card in and while the frame rate didn't suffer much, the quality of
the 3d effects did.

No!   Not the 3d Rendition version.   The reason it is called the
"Rendition"
version is that it works with video cards based on the Rendition chipset.
While both
3dfx and Rendition provide 3d capabilities, they go about it in totally
different ways,
any product designed for either chipset will not work with the other.  Even
getting ICR2 to
run with a  2nd gen Rendition card is a struggle.

Is there perhaps a patch to run the game in 3Dfx? D3D? Even OpenGl, so that
us Voodoo II users can get some pretty spee and graphics?!

True, but then again, isn't Doom at least that old, and there's a 3Dfx patch
for that!

Hmm, that was/is written by a guy on his free time after iD released the
source code to the public. That didn't happen with ICR2, did it?

Fair enough.
