Hardware and NASCAR

I'm finally going to replace my 386 with a Pentium, and I would be sick if
my new machine would not run the Papyrus NASCAR simulation well.  I've had
the CD sitting on a shelf since Christmas.

I have read many of the posts regarding CPU and graphics card speed, and I
think that I will buy a 100 mHz Gateway machine.  My questions relate to the
two sound card options that Gateway offers.  The cheaper one is a 16 bit "
SoundBlaster compatible" card; the more expensive option is an Ensoniq
wavetable card.  Has anyone bought Gateway machines with these sound cards
and used them for the NASCAR simulation?

Thanks for your help.

I have a P5-90, 16MB mem, ATI Mach64 2MB, Ensoniq Wavetable.
Performance is okay (>24 < 30 fps) with all details off, using
digital sound.  I've tried using the FM modulation, but I get
noise in NACAR Racing, and no engine noise, and no skidding noise.
I have the latest driver installed from Ensoniq, and have tried all
the recent ones (since December) with same result.  BTW, this is
in SVGA mode, to me the VGA is too cruddy.  But, I have to use VGA
to run the Glen, for some reason the frame rate there is much worse.
I haven't done any tuning of the PC hardware, if anyone has any advice
I'm listening.
