Flickering textures in GPL??

by Ruud » Wed, 09 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Hi,
A question that puzzles me for some time now,...how does it come that i still have flickering
textures while playing GPL in 3dfx mode??
These textures occur in the upper section of the screen and are very annoying!!
Is there a patch for this,..i tried the glide2x.dll by George M. Smiley but this didn't worked,..
i still have a Voodoo1...but also a Viper 550.
When i play in the OpenGL mode the flickering do not occur but,...i can't get my screen resolution any
higher then 640x480 what is it that i do wrong???
PII 300
128MB
Viper 550 16Mb AGP
Voodoo1 -Diamond
all the latest drivers installed..i think!

Flickering textures in GPL??

by Mass » Thu, 10 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I also get flickering/distorted textures in the upper black field in GPL on
my PII 300 with a Voodoo1 card. I also get similar problems in CM Rally and
Q2. Before I put the Voodoo1 in the PII300 I had it in a P133, and in that
computer there was no problems with flickering textures in GPL or any other
game. Soundcard memory and harddrive is still the same, and Win98 is used.

Can it be some kind of conflict between the PII and Voodoo1-card? I have
searched a little bit on Deja-news, and have found that there are more
people who have a PII and V1, who get the same texture flickering syndrom in
other games to. But I found no answers for the problem.

I have tried a lot of different drivers for the Voodoo-card, but noting have
helped.

Flickering textures in GPL??

I also get these texture problems, but they appear all over the screen
(black bits and***pit).  Sometimes they don't appear very often and
sometimes they are quite bad.  My spec is as follows:

PII 450
Voodoo2 12Mb (Techworks)
Viper 550 16Mb
Sb Live!
Win 98

I think I've got the latest Voodoo reference drivers from 3DFX.  I don't see
this problem with CM rally though?????

Hope someone can help............

Cheers,
Nik

Flickering textures in GPL??

Not sure if its the same thing or not, but I have gotten "flickering" in
the top portion of the screen and in the middle as well. This shows up
as large blocks, sometimes odd colorings of the 2d car images. I have
discovered this is a conflict with my 3com ether net card (I have cable
modem). I had this problem a while back, and solved it by reinstalling
windows. Latter the 3com card died and I switched to another card.
Yesterday my cable company replaced the old 3comm card with a new one, I
connect to Spyboy, run GPl and there was the flicker back again. I
removed the card, hooked the cable to the "other" network card and the
flicker was gone.

Flickering textures in GPL??

I have got a PII-300 with voodoo 1 and i am getting the same thing.  I could
swear
it started only recently  when i upgraded from a soundblaster AWE64 ISA card
to Soundblaster
Live PCI card (plus i downloaded and installed liveware 2.0).

I don't know much about hardware and stuff.  I though I knew enough
to install the new  soundblaster myself though.  I thought i done the job
well until
these flickering textures started showing up in GPL demo,  SCGT demo,  and
now Q2
which i had been playing for ages without any problems.

This is a report of my driver versions.

3Dfx Driver Versions
 glide2x.dll: 2.46
 fxmemmap.vxd: 4.10.01.0015
 mm3dfx.drv: 4.10.1555
 mm3dfx16.dll: 4.10.1555
 mm3dfx32.dll: 4.10.1555
