V3 and GPL Colour/Texture problem

by Iain Mackenzi » Sat, 03 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I am having problems at high resolutions (1024 and above) with my new V3
3000 and GPL. There are colour and texture problems. the problem can be
solved by restricting the texture RAM to 2mb, but this is a bit of a pain.
Does anyone know if this is going to be fixed?
Thanks,
Iain

The fix for that is posted at The Pits and a few other places.  There
is an incompatibility between GPL and the V3 drivers that will be
patched out of existence by GPL 1.1.....

Yes, Iain, the Voodoo texture problem is resolved by the 3dfx rasterizer
that will ship with GPL 1.1.

I run with a Voodoo3 3000 and GPL runs like a top and looks like a million
bucks. Say good-bye to batch files, environment variables, tiny menus,
tweaks, and wrappers! :)

We all owe a big thanks to George Smiley for the interim solution he
developed!

Don't tell me you've got GPL 1.1 because I'll track you down and steal it
from you!

If I read this correctly can i assume you will be including D3D support?

Please make my day.

Ralph...

I'm not affiliated with Papyrus. I'm developing the enhanced GPaL interface
for GPL. The rocket scientists at Papyrus do the hard stuff like video,
physics engines, etc.

What is the interim solution that George Smiley developed? I get round the
problem by ticking the box to restrict the texture memory to 2mb.

Iain, it is:

http://www.theuspits.com/owheel/gpl/files/glide2x.zip

What it does is install the latest Glide dll files to GPL and also
allows running GPL at high resolutions.  The latter is at the cost of
having those same resolutions on your setup screens, with the attendant
miniaturizing of menus and some minor mouse cursor problems.  However,
it works!

Thanks Jack, sorry to take time away from GPaL programming, I was just
intrigued by your post and mention of no need for wrappers.

patiently awaiting both the patch and even more so GPal
