V3 Problems for N3 and GPL - Fixed!

by Earl Setse » Tue, 18 Jan 2000 04:00:00

I wanted to thank those of you who offered suggestions, and especially
those who indicated I might have a bad card.  I took my V3 back and
swapped it for another, and viola, everything works!!!  Yeehaaa.  So,
apparently, I had a Voodoo card that had some issue, probably a texture
memory issue considering the strange issues I saw.  The following is the
text of my previous post for those who might be facing a similar issue:

I am having video corruption problems with my V3 3000 in both N3 and
GPL.  In N3, the last few cars in the pits look like "rainbows" and the
76 sign spins, while in GPL I get patterns all over the road, trees, and
corrupted sky and ground.

I have pulled out all cards but my video card, updated MB drivers (ABIT
BH6), gone back to 300 MHz on my Celeron (normally OC'd to 450), tried
DX6, DX7 and DX7a with various new and old 3dfx drivers, patched GPL to
the latest, etc.  I have posted for help on RAS, but haven't found any
help there.

I have spent 3 or 4 nights a week for about 4 weeks with no success.  My
computer store has agreed to take the card back, so I'm looking for a
last few ideas before I give up and go get something else.  I have
posted to 3dfx support, but like most posts there, I haven't received
any response.  (Anyone know why they call it "Support"?)

Any suggestions will be appreciated, but I feel destined to give up and
try another card.

try things like the refresh rate settings in the control panel area.
I had lots of screen problems with N99 when I had Triple Buffering
enabled.  Once I stopped that, the program ran like normal.
