"Suck & *** & cook & clean,
baby you know what I mean!"
Full credit to Dave for putting in so much hard woks and effort. I
compliment him.
However, I would love to know the reaction if Papy made a converter and made
people pay.
It wouldn't be the same.
Hell even Microsoft give away a free converter.
Maybe I'm wrong again here but people everywhere put alot of work into
thousands if not millions of adons and stuff and give the but free of
change, no questions asked. It works in a knida circle.
If I give this guy my addon for free, he'll let me have his addon for free.
Thats how the net works. We pay for addons with our own. If it weren't like
that nobody would have anything and nobody would bother to pay anything. Its
like the "code" of internet ***. Even the smallest of download can often
mean hours or days of work for someone.
I'm not into warez and I give full credit to Dave from what he's one but
this isn't really sticking to the "code". It like: People might be willing
to pay for this, lets try it! Not so much: Wow, I've done a good job here ,
everyone will be so pleased to get this.
Again, well done Dave, but that just ain't good nettin'

I have nothing against this - if the product can come out earlier with a
selection of tracks and then a track pack added with any patches to the
first then I will happily buy it. Its also makes the patches more accessible
to those outside the 'net communities.
Microprose even put together a selection of GP" "community" utils for sale.
Again to hit the more average GP2 fan (who wouldn't be aware of the
downloads)
Paying for N2 is like paying again for the work in N1 that has got carried
through to N2.
I am all for the evolutionary approach to our sims from the makers - but it
has to be paid for.
Sadly Papyrus appear to have abandoned GPL. If Papyrus produced a "Season
Pack" or three for GPL - I am sure plenty here would buy them.
Without Dave I don't believe the converter would have ever happened.
I believe Dave took the view that he could only devote the massive amount of
time it has taken if there was some form of "compensation".
It does make it hard for the rest of the GPL community volunteering their
time, but this project was perhaps beyond the volunteer approach.
Hence it could be regarded as a special case.
Cheers
Tony

GraDee, I don't get what you're saying. If you have something you think is
equal value to trade with Dave, why not take your offer to him?
Otherwise, since it has a price attached to it, pay it. Or live without it.
Or did I miss something here?

Kurt
Selling addons is nothing more than normal. look at all the addons
made for games like Baldur's gate, Commandos, Red Alert... did you
ever hear people compaining about having to pay money for these
addons?
Look at how much time Noonan put in his converter, and what a
wonderfull converter it became. Now we can drive on Riverside, Seca,
Indy... only for 15 Pounds.
Posting a copy here in RAS in totally insane. I'd hang the guy who
posted it by his balls if I'd get the chance.
I downloaded the warez version of F1 2000, because there is no demo,
and I want to know what I get if I buy something. Liked it and bought
it.
There is a converter demo out, so there is NO reason to download the
full version for 'testing'.
If you have any selfrespect, you download the demo from
www.theuspits.com, try it, and if you like it, you B-U-Y the full
version.

If Mr. Noonan wants to charge for the supply of his converter to the RAS
community, then that is perfectly acceptable to me. Why? Because AUS$30
per copy is a mere pittance in recompense for the time and effort that he
has put into keeping GPL as fresh now as it was the day the demo was
launched in early 1998.
The best of British luck to him, I say.

To Eldred though, surely, in the life of anyone who has a keen interest in
sim racing. Has shared a setup or added some tobacco logo's or something.
Just simple things, then there are those who do more complex things.
I can't see what you mean by you having nothing if you followed my example.
My example is that we have a "community". We share, we give , we take.
Like I said so many times, I'm not gonna take the warez version of this
converter, I don't condone this!
However, Dave Noonan is perfectly entitled to everything his asks for in
return for his great product. Its just taking it out of the circle.
Any of the examples you guys have given are of production companies, ver
often taking what is already on the internet for free and giving it to those
without the net. Things like Paintshop for ICR2 couldn't be counted IMO, not
in this context, if the original game was 30. It was 30 *including* the
paintshop. It didn't turn out to be 45! If Papy were to do this people
would be outraged, such as that whole Daytona track thing.
I know I'm fighting a loosing battle here so I won't insist I'm right, I'm
not, its just an opinion of 1 sim racer.
